Which is your biggest problem. Clear and obvious contempt for people you feel don't meet your minimum standards for education or general knowledge. The context - which is something I ALWAYS pay attention to - is in a pop culture show that has an automotive theme, but is aimed at a very general audience. So you say. Not everyone believes you - I've have several call you out as a regular user of google translate - but I'm prepared to accept you on your word. But why does it matter? What does it prove? Ask me if I, or anyone, cares that you have several languages under your hat? You repeat it so often you clearly think it is something that elevates your stature... it isn't. But if you're reaching out to a broader audience that isn't familiar with rally, in which I would include the general North American CAR audience, what's wrong with 'dumbing it down?' Because they are lazy and uneducated? Maybe more importantly because they lack motivation to figure it out? (I also don't know why you feel the need to denigrate foreigners - in many cases rally is much more mainstream there than here.) What does it matter? Why is this about me? Like it or not, rally racing paints a fairly clear picture of what some of us do (and some of us did, but now mostly sell parts to people who do) without a lot more explanation. If you say you rally, then comes the questions... gimmick, navigational, TSD, Stage. Even Gene [chevy](you ignorant slut)[/chase]'s fave 'ProRally' isn't adequate for the neophyte. It's a great 'brand' once you know what it is but it doesn't jump out and explain the sport. (It's also horribly inaccurate since there are few, if any, true 'pros' in the sport.) Next time any of you go out in public, ask a few people if they know what a Rally, a Pro-Rally, a Stage Rally, or a Rally Race is. Guess which one will be most quickly associated with what some of us do (and some of us did, but now mostly sell parts to people who do.) Oh so I am supposed to care what some snotty nosed, dope smoking "target market" flat brimmer 'thinks"...
Yeah right, Morison. Why did I ask? Because once again for the 14,000th time you are explaining the obvious as if nobody was aware of whatever you are explaining. You seem to have trouble understanding a lot of things, and presume others also need explanation for simple shit, and GAWD apointed you to be "The Great Explainer".. Fuck this threads ruined now. EDIT:
You ignorant slut. I didn't you MORONSON I AM half foreign and been an immigrant and married to foreigners, fucked scores and scores of foreigners, you are so gawddam thick you cannot see that the shit was being shat on "the target demopgraphic" code word for some schlub watching You-Tube... You read so poorly is why I asked if English was your native language. Maybe you are simply stupid. No. But the people producing Top Gear USA clearly do, which is why they may have been 'talking down' to them. Why should you care that the producers care? For the life of me I don't understand where you get this impression from. Seems I can't comment on anything, anytime without you going to extremes to call me out, show me to be wrong, or to somehow prove you're 'better' than me in some way. Only because YOU can't play well with others. We all know this is YOUR sandbox build for you because of this, but srlsy... EDIT: 0 points for originality... lifting that from my post, c'mon John... you can do better can't you? 1 point for a lamer than lame insult. 0 points for a complete sentence. (missing a verb just in case you needed a hand) 'Splan to me then how 'If all those Fucking Foreginers can figure it out...' is anything but derogatory. Coming from some machinist/fabricator who casually leaves out verbs from sentences... I'm not too worried. And maybe you get personal gratification from needlessly insulting people... (I'm leaving 'maybe' in because I'm feeling generous today.) when you comment i don't respond, when you explain the obvious I do.
And again you don't understand language, i say "maybe you are simply stupid".. That is a question, a written 'wondering aloud"... Maybe you are, but maybe being stupid, you never thought of that. Most of us are, me included. Just a question of what kind of stupid. "All happy families are all alike, every stupid person is stupid in their own way" With apologies to Leo for that. I just shared a laugh with a Canadian immigrant from Croatia about this, he laughed... You need to either broaden your horisons, or shut the fuck up.. Yah, the problem with the written word is you don't get any of the inflection that indicates sentiment or intent.
Whatever. FWIW, I was commenting - not explaining. The point was really just 'I don't see what the big deal is about calling it Rally Racing.' Still don't. No one really knows what it is most of the time anyhow. Anymore, I just avoid the discussion altogether. I've now competed in as many track racing events as actual stage rallies. Probably four or five times the actual seat time. Grant Hughes |

Look, you just suggested somewhere in the wall of words that TV crew is dumbing down, what's wrong with dumbing down? Is that why we should be doing more of? More dumbing down? So when some putz calls rally 'rally-cross' we should just go along? or calls or brags he's winning the big RALLYRACE like we've seen when it was really some 1st 2nd gear only grass-o-cross wank fest , we should just "oh yeah, that's cool story bra" When Pastrana's hired fluffers post on his site he was 2007 World Champion, just snicker cause we know better? Is that why we bother to learn things for just to see ignorance spread even faster--thanks to Facebook and tweet ? Nothing mean anything is what you are saying---"just dumb down, what's wrong with that.?" I thought the whole world of TV was dumb enough already, and cable junk even dumber.. Like whatever. IF you want to reach the 'dumb,' then yes. If you want to continue as an elitist, hidden sport, then no. No, you start stating the obvious on the forums where you see this stuff because, apparently, the obvious isn't always obvious to everyone - sometimes obviously so.
Depends. Is everything an either/or, black/white situation? Could it be that you 'dumb it down' to see who you attract and edjumacate them, gently, once they're hooked? 'You say Rally Racing one more time and I'm going to send someone to dig your eyes out with a spoon' isn't exactly welcoming, fostering language. But there I go stating the obvious, or what I thought would be obvious, again. :-) In the end, complaining about a nationally broadcast automotive TV show dedicating a full show to 'Rally Racing' is sort of like being given a (legit) gift of $1500 and complaining about it being in 5's instead of 50s. I can live with Rally Racing and the flat brimmers, youngsters get to call it want they want. It is their time . We still make the stuff happen but it happens for a new participant. I just really dislike the term, oh well.
Tanner has a big following and I suspect Rutledge does to a lesser degree. I think the show is the first significant nation wide glimpse of our sport in quite a while in the US. It was a great peek at Dirtfish and at Nameless Rally.."one of the largest rallies in North America" and we got to see some of out friends on TV for a change . how cool was that? I miss Chevy, Gilda and the whole crew from back then. |
