Just hold your breath while you're painting, then when you have to breathe, run outside and gulp some air and run back inside and resume painting. That's whay I used to do when I was painting cars and look at me, I turned out fine...tongue sticking out smiley

Speaking fo which....

Yesterday the rallycar got abused with a 2x4 and the BIG hammer.
The left rear quarter is now ready for a gallon of mud, sanding and rattlecans to make 'er all betterer.

Dave you up for some mud-wrestling and kinky fun with rattlecans?

That's why I'm in this thread today. Used some Christmas money to pick up a dozen or so rattle cans to at least get the Galant presentable. I know I'm going to have to rework a lot of the brake system shortly, but otherwise, it's all about the cage and seats so I can get the logbook before April.

Since the last installment the rallycar has three terratrip sensors installed at the left front in what will hopefully be a rock-resistant sensor holder.
The Terra-speed thing works for the first time since installing it ten years ago and the rally computer has two sensors to choose from that both work.

I pulled fuel injectors out to have a look-see at 'em. Uh-oh. Much-o fugliness in the filter screens for each injector. More rust in the fuel rail. I do not find this to be amusing.

Next week it will get seats and I'll order up header blanket.

Progress.

With the engine/tranny out for a tranny rebuild, I:

- installed a new shift linkage
- torqued down the subframe bolts after removing the front sway bar with my new torque wrench (hurray for xmas)
- removed electric powersteering pump for cleanup and system draining
- started prep to clean wire harnesses
- broke out the shopvac and vacuumed out the oil dry in the engine bay (dont ask smiling smiley)
- continued cleaning the dirtiest tranny ever that I picked up at the salvage yard

(on second thought, the remark "...dirtiest tranny I ever picked up" seems a bit incriminating...)

Hey Adam and other Bellingham guys....

I'm about ready to try the Volvo out on gravel.

Any of you guys have local knowledge of a candidate for a practice road that is close by? While flying I have seen many roads toward the Sound that look like candidates.

I'm also likely going to run up to Baker and play in the snow. The studded snows are scary as shit on tarmac, but descent on snow.

Put new CV boots on the axles. Axles are original and the boots were too. Probably the easiest thing I've done on the car for years. Getting ready to put the rear suspension back in. New side bars are almost finished and I'm cleaning up the dash ansd wiring so the dash can go back in before the side bars get the final treatment. Then I will be rattle can painting the repair on the passenger b-pillar where Lisa and I had a small off. Then possibly a new exhaust, anybody know if NASA requies a cat? I suspect they will, but know where to get one.

So it's the old answer a question with a question...whose logbook does the car have ? Can you meet 95 dbl without a cat ??

My car has an SCCA logbook (logbooked in '04), and it would and has met the 95 dbl limit. Can I assume that my current exhaust system is good enough? I would love to not spend more money on the car than I have to!

Gets a little sticky but...SCCA by default is RA as to logbooks and rules, as such your car needs a cat. NASA doesn't seem to require them in the mod classes, but to comply you'd need a NRS logbook. If your car meets the 95 rule I use in Washington it would probably be ok getting through tech.Lots of cars, very little time... IF someone were to protest you for not having a cat ..then it's up to whatever stewards decision comes down. Clear as mud ???

Edit..so yep, if your noise level is ok, I'm ok putting you through tech.
