Like the square beam that was bolted up in "Steel Solutions" Bill's Xratty last week.
(Looks good initially, maybe need to correct neg camber, toe looked good, and TOE adjuster prototype is made, "Steel Solutions" Bill will be making the sheet metal bits to reinforce the trailing arms very shortly. ----He just bought the CNC plasma cutter and is getting the shop space cleaned up and air and electricity sorted, and I've been helping him with the sourcing the steel and some machining of a couple of parts, and now its in the run in and shake down stage so now if we need short run plasma cut stuff quickly, we have a guy who is in our corner---and he's going to build a rally Xratty!)

And Grant, Chrissy wifey is done with UW this week and so for the first time in 3 years, I won't be babysitting 3-4 days a week, so shit should happen a lot faster now. Sorry but first things first.

Good news on the progress on the beam too. I still contend that the Merkur, despite it's quirks and other little things, is the best car out there. We've got some pretty serious 2WD cars being built here. From Brooks Frehill's Jetta with a 2.8L VR6 and Quaife straight cut 6 speed to Scott Leonards new 2000 lb. 16V Golf with close ratio box and Kaaz diff. Now I just need to learn how to drive. Anyone want to sponsor me for a day at the Higgins' families rally school in Wales. It's only like $600. Anyhow, I hope to demonstrate the effectiveness of the Merkur and JVAB parts in just a few weeks time.

Thank you for that info. Very good to know. I'll try to make a long story short. My work takes my up to Hannibal Mo from Wentzville a couple times a month. With Atlas in hand, I try to take varying routes up there because it's such a nice drive. In my travels, the expanse between I-64 and I-79 is loaded with gravel roads, elevation changes, some tarmac, etc. That and the views are breathtaking along the river.

Now, I doubt there is enough mileage for a 2 day event but perhaps a long days worth of rally could be had. Some of the roads are downright harsh and would test some cars. Could you share contact info for some of the aforementioned people? I'd like to speak with them.

Being somewhat centrally located, having large areas of not much population, Missouri could host one or two more events a year. 3-4 events here could really boost rally participation. As most of us Mid-dwellers now, the PacNW is a long tow from here.

Lee should be at a 100AW debrief meeting this weekend. I have alerted the ruling cabal to be sure and talk to him about the idea of a new rally. Or you could simply go to www.100aw.org and contact the people your self.

I've read John's response, and it is very informative. Yes. you are correct, I've given it some thought and the "novel" aspect of a pickup could become very old very fast. If I am gonna spend money, do it where I can have fun and realized some kind of long term return, not necessarily monetary. I've gone back over some of the old posts and see your chronicling of the build of your XR4Ti. (xratty?) Did you document any of your analysis? If so, could you share them?

i talked to the guy with the 242 in macomb he had to sell it to pay his rent so my guess is that it's gone by now.

I did a google 242+craigslist search. There's a nice one up in NH. If nothing else it looked good! I'm keeping an eye around here and will post any others I find.

Also, I have an '80 242GT parts car, a box van load of 242 parts, body and mechanical, and....a nice, solid 242 turbo w/intercooler that is in primer ready for a paint job, rally or street depending on whether I sell it or not.

Where is all this Volvo 242 stuff, you may ask? 170 miles from you in southern Illinois. Price is very negotiable and depends on what and how much you want. I'm never going to get this built into a rally car. I can help with delivery, too.

OK, you know they are "Sierra" in the rest of the world but were poorly marketed and became classbook examples of a botched sales strategy here and became sorta "cult" cars, right?
And the one model XR4Ti has a stylized font on the hatch which make the 4 very easy to mistake at a few paces or an A, OK 4 or A.

And being "cult" cars even if they have the most common Ford ever produced at the time the SOHC "Lima", idiot mechanics were loath to work on them and many cars got neglect and became kinda "ratty" after a while.

But they real;ly are excellent handling, easy to drive and pretty quick cars so most many ended up behind the house or behind the barn and got real ratty.

Now we come along, and drag them out of the weeds and make them Sooper Bitchin and they are no longer ratty, the are "EX"-ratty.
See.

If I was a wee boy in my 20s into the Extreme lifestyle scene we could say they're X ratties as in "extreme", but alas I have'nt been in my 20s for 35 years.

Go get George's 240 stuff!!!! He'll help delivery!!!!
