There are new Peltors available with Snell and/or FIA stickers.

I would be very careful about buying one with a FIA sticker since Peltor does not appear on the FIA list of 8860 helmets.

(unless maybe it's really, really cheap and you can amortize it over 2 years).
I've always made the assumption that a helmets could be done in one event's use and if I got more out of them then I'm ahead.
(I actually did have one helmet which was trashed in its third event. It looked fine but I knew what it hit and I was told that I had a concussion so I wasn't going to take chances.)

OK, 2 FIA standards:

8858 is for HANS compatibility

8860 is for Helmet certification (ala Snell and & BS)

So, be careful when a helmet is advertized as FIA certified.....................

YMMV

Hey Keith

Do you know if CARS are going the same route with the British Standards ?

I think CARS put forward a rule change for helmets, stating that if the helmet had a date of manufacturer, it was good for 10 years after.

And if the helmet does not have a date of manufacture (like BSI red label helmets)?

Don't confuse a rule change proposal received by CARS as a rule change being made by CARS. Another version of that rule was for 5 years after date of manufacture, which might have had some legs as 5 years is a recommended lifespan for most helmets anyway. As it stands, I don't believe there are any changes to the BSI standard sunset date.

I knew it was a proposal, but heard from someone it was passed...

I guess we won't know until after the AGM.

Stupid rule makers not having a focking clue how costs trickle down to the teams is what drives entry lists down. When they finally learn that manufacturers dont like eating the cost of obsoleted product on the shelves, then they will realize why new shit costs so much more. When the sanctioning bodies of the various different venues start to attend motorsport symposiums and actually LEARN something and then deal with manufacturers and teams, then all of a sudden things start to look a lot better. Whooaaaa isnt that what NASTYCAR does?... well everybody hates NASCAR but heck if they dont do a good job at it huh?

Rally Ahmerika is nothing but a hobby/part time job for some people so nothing much can be expected, but even posers like to improve so but I'm sure something like colloquiums at the tradeshows or motorsport symposiums would teach them a few things and how to manage the sport....they might make a bit more money too... jus sayin!

Here's two coming up soon
http://www.world-motorsport-symposium.com/
http://www.autosportinternational.com/

Yeah I'll be at both of them...

I guess the SCCA PRB should have never allowed BSI red label helmets in the first place.

Of course this problem is the sanctioning body's fault, not the manufacturer. Why not point the finger at Peltor for choosing to certify their helmets to an odd-ball standard, not the standards accepted by most sanctioning bodies (like Snell SA) from the beginning? Why not complain to Peltor about not having a Snell SA recertification program for their helmets that are less than 10 years old?

As a new team that spent a bundle of cash last summer on a pair of Peltor G78s, this is a big pisser. Those helmets will be lucky to have 10 events on them by early 2013. I guess we just amortize helmets at 60 bucks per person per race?

I am sorry, but what is RA supposed to do? Continue to allow safety gear that has never been accepted by most sanctioning bodies in the US past the point when it is accepted by the FIA?

Have you contacted Peltor to see if they can recertify your helmets to Snell?

The SCCA Solo rules just came out. They accept the BSI standards. Of course they also allow the SNELL M- standards. But they are a group that does not march lockstep with the FIA.

Looking at the Americas 3M/Peltor website, they don't even list a G78/G79 helmet under their motorsports product offerings. It is listed on ROW (rest of world) section with the G79 that is listed as Snell SA2010. Do I contact the UK office the US office? this is frustrating.
