..................

Hard not to want the above car...pic looks nice!

Not that i could afford it anyway..but then I picture my 6'5" 300 lbs ass sitting in there..

I doubt I'd fit!

How cramped are these cars...particularly with a cage?

It has WAY more room inside than my Corolla - the look and the room are the main reasons I want one over what I currently have. Otherwise I suspect the simplicity of what I have now is better (suspension and stuff).

As far as the electronics goes, like any modern car they are fairly complex so the best advice is keep the thing as stock as possible. The more you remove, the more pissed it will get and you will waste time and money dealing with that. ABS and stuff has to stay in there to some extent to keep other parts of the car functioning properly. Me, I would rip it all out and start over with my own stuff, but that is not the path most guys want to go down....

Suspension, it sounds like the one at Idaho was fairly simple (maybe just changing dampers/arms/etc) or you can talk to the Nameless guys and purchase their setup (take out all the stock stuff and run their subframe/arms/dampers/etc). Likely not cheap, but proven to work in rally and I believe mostly bolts in (save for maybe the towers)!

Or just rip it all out and do a solid axle and 4 link setup in the back.

The one at Idaho was servicing right next to the team I was servicing for. I didn't talk to them much, but I did find out that it was pretty stock, albeit with Ohlins dampers. They were mostly out there as a learning experience, not pushing hard at all.

I'm restoring a flood damaged CAN-bus car; and by flood damaged i mean salt water over the roof damaged. I've learned a lot, but there's a lot of draw backs, such as everything is married to the VIN blah...so dealers can make more money and you're almost forced to use their shops. If you can program the ECU (which to my knowledge is still possible in most cars with aftermarket support) you can eliminate CAN-bus from your car completely. All your actuators, motors lights etc etc, are still 'dumb'. They are just controlled by smart things.

For a race car thats stripped out, hard wiring the bare essentials shouldnt be a big deal. When it comes down to it most of the parts you need to work will still work with old school controls and oem switches. You just need to wire them properly to eliminate the brain.

You can also eliminate a bunch of other modules on the BUS system that you dont need, airbags,abs,coms... you just have to make sure that your terminate resistors are still in place, and that the high speed lan wires are looped through if you eliminate something. Or just eliminate the BUS system completely.

Really all im trying to say is for a race car, thats never going to back to factory specs; if you can get the engine to run independently of the car; the CAN-bus shouldn't scare you.

I probably wouldn't really even want to change subframes/control arms, just the dampers. I've looked under one of these a while ago, and it's honest, simple stamped steel under there. Nice, cheap, reliable, easy to reinforce, and easy to bend back into shape. As long as the travel is decent, I don't see a reason to change it for a basic G2 car.
I have an RSSP setup from my current "GC" chassis RS, which should probably fit the front with a little work...

I guess I'll investigate further.

Is that an FRS? I thought it was a BRZ? Why do people keep saying GT86? Last I checked Toyota isn't selling a GT86 anywhere in the world! And by world I mean USA of course. winking smiley

Though it looks like Toyota is starting to get what we've been saying all along. BMW > Subaru. smiling smiley

Well we know Toyota is not serious about rally since they did not partner with Volvo.
