Aargh..nothing but an argument to be had with this discussion...I'm in.

FWD puts the power to the good part of the road. When well driven , look at any of the Youtube vids from Oz, they are fast, tidy and sideways. FWD is current technology, current Focus (groan) from manufactures, builders, tuners and suppliers. When you see the average driver, even Finns, lose one on stage it is always over steered going in and thru a corner. The front end finally hooks and then the rear snap oversteers and the car is done. You watch Brendan or any of a dozen fast Aussie guys wheel thos FWDs and they are mildly sideways into the corner and pretty straight and fast out.

RWD...a sledge hammer. You need power, more power than FWD to stay even. You can do more power as the elements are all stronger physically. They have to be driven well, slide in, straight out, power on. The massive fish tales, sideways exits are slow going. Get the back tires over a berm or in a ditch and shit gets interesting fast.

Wheelbase..bullshit on the JV US road theory. I've rallied and dominated on our roads in both 92 and 95 inch wheelbase cars. I've seen triple digits on the speed more times than I can count. Never had a problem attaining or maintaining those speeds and I love twisty roads myself.

If you want to win in todays world, you better go fast, mph fast. 95% of the people simply won't achieve the skills or equipment to do so reliably and consistantly. So beyond that , rally what you want, what you know, what you feel comfortable in, what you look good in or whatever winds your clock. Life is short, enjoy the time you have.

i always felt the down side to fwd is the front tyres do a lot of work
steering, braking and pulling the car
not that pushing the whole car is much better

So the solution is front wheel drive, rear wheel steering?

Tim.

I love how it takes five minutes of clicking around to figure out that Ramana is beating ACP's Fiesta with a 1995 BMW M3.

Oh, wait 19-year-old Rally Car!!!! The Horrorororororororrrr!!!!

Whaddevar, who cares?

All you need is a stock 1st gen RX7 and you can dominate.

Never need to think of any improvement. It couldn't have been better.
It's all bullshit....

I thought FWD was a su-pee-ree-oar platform in rally in terms of 2WD. What is it about the M3 that is making it stand out in this event?

You thought wrong.
It's not THIS event. That car won Idaho Rally and Olympus OVERALL, like 1st place in front of EVERY other car. They are well balanced, easy to drive, and easy/plenty of HP. More importantly, you can get decent diffs and gearing into the cars.

Also, seeing as you are a party animal you probably don't know that Ramana Lageman was a Subaru factory driver so he's not a slouch or anything.

These roads are also well suited to high commitment and stability.

Grant just a little note. Show some respect for language and for those who are/were "factory" drivers.
Even if Subaru USA was giving him cars and paying the whole bill at Vermont Sports car, that can in no way honestly be called "a factory driver"...

And nobody believes that the deal was any different from for example Block's deal with M-sport...

Just a little correction so the poor innocent part-animal doesn't think that you're bullshitting tooooooooooooooooo much.

Those 3.0 things seem to have 240hp and 225 ft/lbs and the weight who knows, they are a big car....

Know what that car--is it Derek nelson's car---weighs?

So you reckon that is the key element? 240 hp/225 ft/lbs and ?? for gears and axle?
