Oh man, crashing backwards is the worst. I've luckily never done it on a motorcycle, only my mtn bike. I also once was going up a step up, and thought I didn't have enough speed (after leaving the lip...) to actually go forward, and thought I was going to come straight back down and land ~ 14 feet flat on my back. Hello scariest moment I've had on 2 wheels.

Clearly you've never high sided.

Nope. That is one type of crash I haven't done yet. Over the bars, loss of momentum, backwards, front tire wash out, front tire on the hidden wet slippery ass root sliding causing you to turn the bars 90 instantly, and my personal favorite, being terrible at jumping and having your feet come off the pedals, hahahha. That's always exciting

I've been pretty lucky..thru a couple barb wire fences, over one car trunk lid and numerous trail riding fall offs in 50 years of cautious riding (for the most part).

My brother on the other hand has had a bunch of off road crashes. He was quite the dare devil as a young man. I've watched my brother hit a deer and even better a weasel ran into his front spokes once. Both time we were trail riding as kids. The weasel actually made him endo. Some of the spots he used to get in amazed me. I never had the will or balls to follow him off road. He's ridden all over the western US with a GoldWing club, they've lost a few members along the way to cars and crashes tho. Now a couple Laseck (sp) surgeries later his road miles are way down. Gettin old ain't always easy.

$750. Nice.
You boys know that the original pipe is double wall?
And OEM muffler is quiet..

Odd thing is that people still repeat the old lore "ring dingers are noisy".

BS

First statement kinda sorta sounds like no old 2 strokes. You need to check Greg.

John, you're beating a dead horse there. Like most of your over the top ranting and opinions. 2 strokes are a dead end for the most part. Feds saw to that and the Eco Nazis aren't done. 2 strokes ARE noisey to many people, piped bikes are even worse...to many people. Whether you agree or not is irrelevant honestly, it's not you Greg has to deal with. Many states won't allow them now because of the supposed pollution same with outboards, again doesn't matter what you think or what happened 100 years ago. 2 strokes have always fouled plugs whenever they damned well pleased and broken reeds and scored cylinders as well as refused to start for no other reason than they felt like it...except for yours of course, cuz you're special.

Yeah, I looked at that PDF last night and I am 100% certain that I need to call the DOT and get some clarification. Seems to me that I need to look for a KLR or a TW.

I like the duct tape seat. But ND DOT may have other plans for me.

2 strokes are a dead end for the most part. Feds saw to that and the Eco Nazis aren't done.

Never really were and seval of the major companies are re-introducing new models this year, 250s. I gues they didn't get the memo.

In any case thats all NEW SALES.
Greg was looking for used stuff, totally different thing

I agree that people SAY they feel they're noisy.
But noticed how many times I said OEM pipe? OEM muffler?

Maybe I must have leart something living and working on nothing but 2 strokes daily for 12-15 years....maybe.

You know its a joke about the BOYS who are whining.
Guess i have to teach you about subject and verb in language..
It is aking the BOY why he snivelling, what is his excuse? it is not making fun of anybody with current or past disease.

My left leg was burned to a crisp when I was 10, roasted to charred shit, I gor bad gangrene, it stunk and oozed yellow, green, black, white and red shit and was obviously gonna get cut off. Months of work by the US Army's best burn specialists save the leg. i was fucked and in wheelchair--supposedly for 2 years...actually less than one, but almost another on crutches..
At 15 I was diagnosed with what they strongly suspected was bone cancer and the leg was signed off again..Luckily after a bone graft operation I kept the leg.
Another year in wheelchair+ more crutches

15 years later add another year or more in wheelchair and/or crutches.

I had a lover for years who had a non-fatal, but still difficult form of muscular dystrophy who had 10 times the human spirit of any car guy I have met. Braver and far more optimistic.

I do not joke about people who for whatever reason have had illnesses, disease, disabilties, addictions, injuries...

But I will ridicule healthy people simpering about trivial inconsequential effort because of those I have known who sail above their difficulties with grace and humor.. Alisa, ex-sweetie pie, she picked up that line from me and would throw it around..she had a right to granted.

Don't go calling me a fuckhead because I poke fun at a perfectly healthy guy whining about dumping a few ounces of oil in a gascan metaphorically as if he was disabled somehow--HE is the joke--and I gave him shit on the phone today about it

No reference was made to any REAL PERSON who may have had difficulties..
3-4 years in wheelchair and crutches and just about fucking dying just a couple of years ago with getting this all metal knee I think I understand just a little about how difficult it can be.

Talk about getting crusty.eye popping smiley

All those bikes are on Craig's list and are just fine for offroad use.

I want a bike I can put a license plate on that I can ride out to the woods without a truck to take me there.

And North Dakota seems to not one them on the road. I need to make some phone calls tomorrow.

Apparently new off road bikes have a special vin that will prohibit them from getting plates.

Greg, the TW while it is a bit gutless is a great bike. Usually hard to find in the used market because they are such a great bike for low cost and always work. People don't often get rid of them.
The other plus is you can throw the keys to anyone and know they are gonna get home and it is one of the easiest bikes ever to learn on. (it really does make a good keeper for when you upgrade to newer, bigger better)

The kdx does have a great history. But at the end of the day it doesn't have a lot of the comforts that make frequent riding on the street enjoyable.

I'm not sure what your budget is, but if you can bump it to 2k it will really open more options.

My max is gonna be right around 1100-1500.

Another reason I want a dualsport is that is easier to justify to my wife. A offroad only bike has limited use. Can't pitch the mpg angle as a selling point if I need to put it on a trailer behind the car to get it out to play.
