As a corolla ralliest, I would like to put you on notice that the stock wiper switch 'the rotary one' is in kind of a bad spot. While you're messing with the combo switch, you should think about incorporating a wipe/wash stalk.
Kris in canada had his sprayers stick on while on stage. it doesn't default wipe which is nice in most cases, but sketchy at full speed on mud. Did you weigh the motor/trans combo? Are you going to rock something on the intake like Mat P. did up here in seattle? "I put the hurt on dirt" - adam crane http://CraneRallyCrew.com corolla gt-s "Patches" Op: S.S. |

Yeah I pitched the stock headlight and wiper switch in the scrap bin with a lot of the other stuff. I have a switch panel I am using for most the functions, but I may also use the "flash" part of the turn signal stalk to do a quick wipe/wash sequence so it is easy to do on stage, then have the main switches on the panel for normal operation. My biggest regret thus far is the fact that I didn't weigh the car before I started (maybe Blake and Joel did) and I haven't weighed the engine/trans either. The engine and trans setup will certainly be heavier, but not sure how much. I have managed to shed a few pounds of stuff out of the car, not much but every little bit helps. I don't think I have seen Mat P's setup, unless I stumbled across it in my many searches of Corolla rally stuff (which usually turns up your cars and a bunch of crazies in Ireland) and didn't realize it. Been making a little progress, Alex the fab guy at the shop had a break between jobs to work on the Corolla again.
Pedals are mounted, new steering column mount: Overview of "dash", I mocked up the switch panel with some cardboard tonight. The tunnel is from the Altezza clip, just mocked up in there now but fits shockingly good, and will be able to use the rubber shift boot and everything from the donor. We are also going to downsize the crazy large steering shaft boot on the Corolla by again using the Altezza one, which gave us a lot more room to position the pedals correctly. There isn't much space in the car for me, but it has been fun optimizing the position of the controls a bit during this process. The clip also turned out to be a much better buy than just an engine/trans set, as we have harvested quite a few useful items from it. Getting close to laying wire, I have the schematics almost done, just setting in stone the final position of a few of the pieces and my favorite part will start. I had a question for all the Volvo experts on here. The rear axle in the Corolla (I don't remember exactly what vintage/model it is), how much axle end play is normal? If you pull in/out on the axle flange, you get about 1/32" of movement. From everything I can find via my trusty friend Google, this seems to be normal? Bearings/seals are all new at OTR, everything is tight. Both sides are exactly the same.

Been making a little progress, in between real work. Olympus is looming on the horizon large and in charge so crunch time now.
Tunnel from the Altezza donor installed. After a bit of massaging it ended up being an awesome fit. Alex (fab guy at PSI) whipped up a sweet dash for me when I said "I dunno, just some simple aluminum panel is fine with me". I guess that is why I am not a fab guy..... He also installed the throttle pedal assembly. Pedal mechanism itself is from a C6 Corvette, the pedal cover is one last remaining piece of the Altezza clip. ![]() Converted it to a manual steering rack (versus the power steering rack without the pump it had before). Got a couple MR2 racks, cleaned them up and picked up a Quaife quick ratio rack (advertised at 2.5 turns lock to lock, but this one measures out at 2.25) and installed with fresh bearings/bushings/seals. ![]() And I finally got time to start on the wiring. I am about 3/4 of the way done now with most of the sections, but the engine harness is the first one completed: ![]() John Reed John Reed Racing www.johnreedracing.com johnreedracing@gmail.com |

Does "shameless" imply involvement with MWS? The About Us part of the website really has nothing About MWS. Domain registration links back to Portland Speed Industries in Hillsboro. Grant Hughes Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 08/29/2012 03:10PM by NoCoast. |
