Hey John, nice job cutting down the drum. Are you planing on attaching the caliper mount to the spindle or the trailing arm? Now in fairness to the stock stuff, and I am not saying it is in any way "strong", and if I understand you design correctly. Would not your stuff would behave the same way in that test just without the spring action? Because of the rod ends you were going to put in it. Have you changed the design? Also, that arm will never really see a load like that. All of sideways force would be taken up by the 3 links that attach to the knuckle area. |

No I've been welding welding welding sanding welding welding sanding, and now I's outta ciggies pooooooooooooooooooooooooor me...(sniffle) I went and picked up dis stuff, time for soembody local who wants somma dis stuffs to come up with a Golf II or III caliper..maybe robert Gobright has one that somebody local who wants some of this stuff knows well... (There's only one me and i gotta try and fill existing orders and i gotta weld---25 Supra into Xratty kits. 1st operation done---after running out of gas and then wire---lucky for me I just happened to pick up a 33lb spool and fresh bottle yesterday about quarter to 5.) But when I got this crap welded, yes I will.. Links can be separate from coilovers... But for the brakes I need people to pitch in with some effort...low skill, low thought go pick up a caliper type effort. John, I'll hunt down some inexpensive, easy to find calipers and send them out to you. VW Golf II or Golf III is what you have in mind?

I think the idea of the VW caliper was based on size more than cost. My impression is that we were trying to fit a lot in a finite amount of space. We're fitting in the Coilover, suspension arms, hopefully camber adjustment, caliper, caliper bracket, etc. In the end a Focus one may work just fine, that's why this is a development project until we come up with something workable (and hopefully inexpensive)

It's the shallow hats in production discs since the fad of having flat outer wheel faces swept the world.
If everything has flattish hats, then we'ze gotta a)go for modern slidey pin type calipers cause there's just the "claw" and pad outboard. b) face financial ruin buying really bitchin real rally wheels which swoop in to the hub in the last moment to clean nice calipers of the tradition saddle type with the pad AND THE PISTON outboard.. and they stick out. So we can't use my default gravel rear: 2 x 1.5" pistons Volvo 240 rear. Nice big pad, huge choice of compounds cause its same pad as 911 front up to 1974 So we look for something first, correctly sized piston, second EASY TO FIND ANYWHERE even at the junk-yard which is some peoples first choice. Thus VW Golf.. Just lucky the hose/pipe connections are the same Euro Metric--(din't stink of that didya?)
