Only spindle difference is the rears came with the 08' Coupe / sedan only redesign. To my knowledge all that changed was the bolt size for attaching the rear spindle to the trailing arm. The fronts are a totally different matter. I can break it down the changes if you want but John is very focused on staying on topic with this thread. |

John, I know what you're getting at, but I still find it funny that you're telling me that it doesn't make sense to get junkyard parts for the rear because the bolt pattern is wrong.
I'd forgotten about the 5 lug vs. 4 lug thing. The older S40s were 4 lug but they were also Mitsubishi based, not Ford based. I wonder if it'd be worth the trouble to just hack the drum off and turn it into a hub. Probably as much fun as redrilling a Volvo hub for the correct bolt pattern. At least THESE bearings can be pressed out of the unit, unlike (apparently) the VW unit-bearing setups. I was able to find a whole svt focus cheap and just swapped the whole rear sub frame out was a fairly easy process. There is a place in Wisconsin that specializes in focus and I know he sells full break kits off svt focus. Here is there web site if your interested http://speedwayrecyclers.com/.

Pete, lathe work is always easier than mill. Just drag the tool over something any shape and eventually it'll be round.. Mill, you gotta wake up--(just made a jig yestarday for machining more of those "convert old school fixed strut into two bolt ear thangs" and then spent 4 hours milling.... And ferfuckssake of course junk yards are 1st choice.. But I have seen 1 set of rear disc brakes on a Fucked-us---that what Ford did. Well now Erik has given us a contact number. Anybody call yet? I'm a'gunna bet that with all the wannbe ricer Fucked-us Boys out there nationwide---hell 0.001% would still be thousands---I betcha they want a premium. Somebody call.. Meanwhile Chris is 'spossed to scare up some drums of some sort to butcher. The first ones I did went to those children "of exceptional driving ability" who flipped 3 times in 3 events, last on first gravel stage, and so that was wasted time and effort... Thank goodness it didn't take more than 1 ciggie worth of time. John Vanlandingham Sleezattle, WA, USA Vive le Prole-le-ralliat www.rallyrace.net/jvab CALL +1 206 431-9696 Remember! Yeah that's what I thought. I remember it was a required part of the whole "Spec Focus" shenanagins back in the day where everything cost too much.
Shit, $100 gets you a complete rear disc swap on a Honda. Trailing arms, spindle, caliper, rotors, hub/bearing, pads! Although the calipers you might as well rebuild for $15 in seals at the least. Might as well go for fresh and non rusted to shit rotors. I've seen ones where guys completely refurb the entire assembly for something like $250-$300 with all reman parts and such too. |

They little tiny stuff, not like the truck brakes on the Xratty...And maybe there's shoes, but in my widdle Saab once the asbestoes was removed the shows would die in one hard night of driving.. The material would turn to rock... What's wrong with making the drum into a hub and throwing a disc over it? The thread isn't really about everybody ELSE'S opinion IF these guys SHOULD, its, "we're going to do this, who wants to come along?" Hello Grant, That is almost all of the parts. 2 are missing. 1. There is a small bracket that bolts to the trailing arm with the top suspension link that supports the brake line. You can see the groove on the protective cover just right of center on the one in your photo. 2. It is missing the e-brake cables if you would want to run them. The cables are different from the drum setup. Also, if someone where to buy this or for John's Drum to conversion. The spindle nuts are made out of a bunch of stacked washers that have been banded together and threaded and are a one time use item. So they need to be replaced if you remove the hub from the spindle of either setup. |
