Patrick, I bought a military jumpsuit I wear when working that helps to keep me from tanning much, but that friggin undercoating is still our nemesis!
I have never seen a car that has it applied as thick as the Merkur! I end up blowing and spitting that crap up for 2-3 days after! Friggin stuff... I can't wait until we finish the bottom and then we'll be done with it. It's all over the shop, and I mean ALL over. Cheers! John http://www.lastditchracing.com http://www.triplecaution.us |

No muss, no fuss, no messy pads to change. Looking good John. Hey I'm about to send you some rear shocks soon as I have the spring seats machined up. I see you're getting with the program John. That nice green spray bottle is a good start, now paint that block the same and you're on your way to being In with the In crowd. Toyed with the idea of liquid nitrogen, but we weren't sure that we'd have the rotisserie done.
There's lots of logistical issues to be dealt with on the underside of the car, both fron and rear. In the front, I need to put the frame rail engine mounts in. Of course, I can't do that until I have whatever tranny I'm going to put in this thing. I also can't do the radiator support until I source a radiator. In the rear, I need to source Supra diff, and apparently mod the STA for the coil-overs. I also want to put in one of the sexy square rear diff carriers, or at least get plans to make our own. Then, I need brakes and rally rims etc. Man, it's all going to be spending from here on out! Cheers! John http://www.lastditchracing.com http://www.triplecaution.us |

John nI can easily find you a good unsaltified Saab 900 rad and the twin fans, I have anb extra rad mount, I have Cosworth intercoolers, and the critical 110degree hose, and I have the Cosworth turbine housing you want to stick on the exsisting center section of your turbo and I have the flange and can supply the downpipe to get you into the tunnel.
I can also supply a diff with 4.3 The parts that were hung up for 6 months at the lazer cutter for some unknow reason are now cut so now its back to jigging up the first 5-6 square beams. I may also have some Compomotive THs. I might just be making a trip out that way to trailer a nice rust free non sunroof street car for pPaddy to drive whiloe he's finishing his degree so some of the stuff could be thrown in the van for that trip. Might be fun and it'd give me a chance to see my friend Mike Ryan in Wiscasset who's gotten married and who's a new Dad like me. You're supposed to find a Camaro V8 T5 cause they all have the ratios we want AND the gearstick is in the right place or call Hanlon Engineering in PA and splain you want the 2.95 gearset and the shifter like the Camaro. You can choose what 5th ya want, like a .72 or .68 to use it as a "transit only cruise at less revs even with a 4.3 than a normal street car" or get a .82 and actually use it sometimes on those fast stages. And I am another run of struts and there you can now choose between 40s like everybody else or go 50mm. Time to dust off the checkbook it seems. Checkbook indeed. Problem is, it never sits long enough to gather any dust! ;-)
We'll talk in the next couple of weeks. I'm in no huge rush to get this done, although I do want it done, if that makes any sense. The cage will take us a bit, as will building the hydraulic bender. Cheers! John http://www.lastditchracing.com http://www.triplecaution.us |

Here's the tubular manifold I have. Well, mine is actually welded closed for an internal wastegate. Even though I have a few Audi external wastegates laying around. I like this one because it leaves the turbo in stock location, which I wanted since I already have a stock location 5 blot flange 3" downpipe as well.

I'm sure John will tell you why all of that is a waste of money though. Of course, my ex-girlfriend can tell you why all of this rally shit is a waste of money. And my current one can tell you why none of it is a waste of money. As will my smile in a few months when I'm behind the wheel. The linked radiator does have the in and out on the wrong ends. But there's some easy and not so easy solutions for that that can be found on Merkur Sport or Merkur Club. I don't remember which. Grant Hughes Edited 1 time(s). Man it seems you like to spend money!!! Whatever! But I don't so that's why I was hoping that 4.3 diff I got for $10 would be useful. It's been since Nov 12 when I won it Grant, so if you don't want to get it just say so and I'll find some Volvo perv that can. Just ordered the JD2 tubing bender and we're going to convert it to hydraulic operation. Should have it operational in about a week or so and will be able to start building the cage.
Cheers! John http://www.lastditchracing.com http://www.triplecaution.us |
Looking at the date of the last post, I think my time estimate was optimistic...as usual! ;-)
We are nearly done with all the seam welding on the bottom of the car. We're planning on running 1" tube down the sills to make it bombproof. Might have some more pics by the end of the day tomorrow. Air distribution system in the barn busted in the cold. Water in the sytem froze and expanded. Nice science demo, but one we could have lived without. Repaired and have a leak in the repair. Damn cold! I'll get more parts tonight in case the extra layer of adhesive doesn't seal it up. JD2 tubing bender arrived late last week. Will be starting on the assembly/fab tomorrow as well. Hopefully get it to a point where all we need is to measure and buy the hydraulic lines. We'll have the cage designed in bendtech pro software, so if anyone wants to see some pics of how that works, I'll post those too. Cheers!
