Shiza's Integra
June 25, 2012 02:49AM
Friday I finally got to drive my rally car. Then Saturday and Sunday I raced it at the Freezeout Hill Climb outside of Emmet, Idaho. I learned a few things.

First off the brake pedal takes WAY too much effort. I've driven a couple STI's with brake booster deletes that were stiff but for some reason my car takes a LOT of effort to stop. If I was racing down hill I would have had zero confidence in it.

Second thing, with the seat mounts in the car I couldn't get close enough to the pedals. Steering wheel, shifter and hand brake are perfect though. The thing with this is I don't really want to move the seat any closer because with the head wing seat there won't be much clearance between the seat and the A pillar support bar. Does anyone make a decent set of sliders so I can still get in and out? I know sliders aren't ideal but I need to do something. Bringing the pedals closer with a floor mounted pedal box isn't really in the budget.

Third, it really needs to be looked over GOOD. On my last run of day one the bolt fell out of the pivot point for the brake pedal. It pretty much left the brake pedal useless and I had to resort to the hand brake. Also going to grid on day 2 a wire popped off my fan switch. The wiring the previous owner did is "creative." It didn't have a connector, soldering of any sort, or heat shrink. From what I could tell he twisted the wires together and used a little electrical tape.

4th, This thing is LOUD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The guy working the finish said I was the only car he could hear from start to finish. I got a text from a friend saying his ears were bleeding from when I went by. It's a 4 to 1 header into a 3 inch exhaust with just a metal spun cat at the back. I'll need to figure out a muffler for it. Any recommendations?

5th, With no sway bars and the car at gravel height it leaves plenty to be desired on tarmac. It seemed like it was moving a lot under me. I was able to control it but it took some getting used to.

I got some video I'll try get uploaded and Alex Staidle took a bunch of action shots. Hopefully I can get those up soon.

Stopped for some lunch food after tech(before swapping on the good wheels)

You can kind of see how much room I have between the seat and A pillar bar. Also it's not a Group 5 car anymore. It's got a N.A. 97 Integra Type ARRR motor with a B16 trans, MFactory gears and a 4.4 final drive. 65 MPH in 5th gear is between 5100 and 5200 RPM, VTEC hits at 5500 and redline is 8700.

Danny, change the ratio of the pedal, 6:1 is a good ballpark. You can do it by re-drilling the pivot or rod hole, or cut and shorten the top of the pedal to move the pivot closer to the rod.

A good friend has 91 civic autocrosser that was insanely loud. He just put in a 24" Burns stainless muffler, and I will say I am amazed at how much quieter that car is. It definetly took out the raspy honda sound

Oh, and good job!

I'm curious, you Hondah guys always seem to reporting crazy stuff in the box/rpm What you say there is 13 mph per 1000 rpm in TOP.

What's you actual ratios?
What tires?

Sounds fine on top speed...113. will it pull it?

Yeah, Hondas/Acuras are notorious for brake issues.

Do you have brake cooling ducts? That seems to help a lot on the road racing Civics and CRXes.

Sean, as far as the brakes I will have to look into something like that. When I get a chance I will take a look to see what I can do. As far as the exhaust I still want plenty of noise just not to the extent it has now. Now it's deafening for anyone outside. It's actually not raspy at all though. I don't think anyway haha. I have a peltor helmet so it keeps inside the car quiet.

John I couldn't tell you the ratios. The trans came with the car already built. It's also got a Kaaz lsd. It's got plenty of power so I think it will do the top speed just fine. It's a JDM ITR which is good for around 200 crank hp or so and revs to 8700.

Al, yeah I know but I want to slow down last minute not be afraid I can't stop and lift/brake way to early like I was.

Grant, It's got a Tilton dual master cylinder. Front is 5/8 I can't quite see without using a mirror but it looks like the rear says 1. The brakes are just OEM Integra LS with a K-Sport 5/8 hydro hand brake.

Mike I didn't have any issue with the brakes getting too hot. I just wasn't able to push the brake hard enough as far away as I was from the pedals. I would really like to figure out a good seat slider or to move the pedals closer to me.

Here's the vid. I know I was lifting/braking early and often due to the lack of confidence in the brakes.

Fixing the brake pedal!

Like I said on facebook, I brought a knife to a gun fight.

That car scoots, and sound awesome!

Did not know you already had dual masters, I thought you said it had a booster delete. You could decrease bore size equally
to also make the pedal effort easier. Measure the pedal ratio, should be 6:1

You say that like I have a clue how to do that haha. Remember I'm an aircraft mechanic not a car mechanic grinning smiley.
