Done by who?
What material?
And choice in execution..design?

Sean I can certainly do 22RET for less than $800.
Custom Volvo turbo stuff retails for 720..

But you never call so oh well.
Oh and I need to get what is holding the rear of you car back and you need to pick up the shock that came back.

Just hit the stock ones on the belt sander to lower compression ratio and voila, cheap and since it's Toyota it will NEVER fail!

When I put the supercharger in my Toyota pickup truck years ago I ordered a set of factory 22RE turbo pistons from the dealer. Hammered the hell out of it.

7.8:1 compression compared to 9.4:1. Not sure if they're still available though.

Chevy Ecotek uses 10:1 with about 10 lbs boost on their boosted setup...of course it is a much better engine imo....

Boys, high compression and boost can be done, obviously.

But how much of each depends to a HUGE degree on the cylinder diameter..

bores up to about 86 to about 87mm can run significantly higher comp---all other things being equal----than bores over about 90mm can tolerate..

Thus Honjas, VWs at around 81-82mm, Misterbitchy 4G62 at 85mm, Peugeot and Renault and Citroens at about 85mm Toyota 3GSE (All trac), GM old XE 16v , Fords old F2 motor, new Evobitchi motor, new 2,0 Subie all at 86 bore (and stroke), Duratec at 87mm all modern motors can go high and still accept boost.

Above 90, like Saab 2.0 8v and 16v at 90, Cosworth YB at 90,8; Subarat EJ20 and Volvo B21 at 92, Volvo B23 and Ford Lima at 96, cannot reasonable run tons of static comp AND high boost without the potential for bad ass detonation, even those with decent combustion chamber shapes..

When we got the 34mm rule (for no good reason) Dave Hintz asked me to call the people I know who make WRC type motors and ask what they had ben doing.. "9.1 to 9.15 MAX" was the answer I was told by a guy named Ahmed Bayjoo who had been Fords mapping and tuning guy from mid 80s to mid 90s, and is the Hero of the YB world (he does the eproms for most big name places in UK, they stick their labels on them).

More comp can be done of course but then ignition advance is inevitably compromised which cost more BHP than slightly lower comp--especially once yous making boost...

22RE is 92mm bore, 89mm stroke and not the prettiest chamber and plug location..

I'd be careful and go max 8.0 to 8.2 maybe..

But what (and who) do I know..

Hintz did win NE Region whatever with his engine which he said ran like a clock and worked good.

Like John said the chamber design and bore size are not ideal for forced induction. I ran 6 psi boost with the stock 9.4:1 compression ratio on 93 octane with no issues.

I later bumped the boost to 9 psi (non intercooled) and added water injection. Ran out of water one day and shattered #4 piston's ring lands.

Put in the 7.8:1 turbo pistons and it was reliable after that, but it felt faster with the low boost/ high compression setup. Certainly smoked the tires a lot easier...

Honestly curious about why that is.
I'm not suggesting it isn't, not questioning that is the case at all, just genuinely curious why.

Same here and does it and does bore have more bearing than having a well shaped combustion chamber or proper quench?
