so how impossible is it to find a 2.9 cossie engine

How many you want? 1? 2? 2.5? Right in Western WA

They are nice but extrmemly complex build.
Why?
Why?
Why and a half, why?

The wages of greed is sin..or something.
The WHOLE idea of the damn car is its so gawddamn soimple..
Simple like stick the key in and turbn it and you have more than enough poop to have fun..
Bolt on some cheesoid 3' exhaust. More fun
TB ECU plug it (and swap the 2 wires) MORE fun..

How much fun you need?

Duratec 3.0 is G2 legal, and over 200bhp stock. There are versions upto 240hp stock! Thats what I was thinking for the XR. I bet it is lighter than the 2.3T

The 2006 Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan, and Lincoln Zephyr feature a version of the Duratec 30 using variable valve timing. The engine has an output of 221 hp (165 kW) at 6250 rpm, and 205 lb·ft (278 N·m) of torque at 4800 rpm.
The final major revision of the Duratec 30 was seen on the 2009 Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner small SUVs. Cam-torque-actuated iVCT was introduced in this version along with better breathing heads. The result is a bump from the previous version's 223 bhp (166 kW; 226 PS) to 240 hp (180 kW) at 6550 rpm. The newly refreshed engine made its way into the redesigned Ford Fusion as the optional base V6, and the Mercury Milan as the only V6 for the 2010 model redesign.

I bet there are many available in the wreckers.

Yeah yeah whatever.
the POS cast iron thing comes free in every Xratty--Tbird ecu and 3" plus maybe Cossie turbine housing---all BOLT IN works fairly good..205 hp ,235 ft/lbs with stock exhaust and some lame ass turbo. That's probably good enough.... just gear it and go.

Stuffing a modern engine into anything is not ALL BOLT IN.

Remember the old maxim "A good plan today is better than a perfect plan tomorrow"---or 2 years down the road.
More simple---more time in car, more miles practicing on the road, not wrenching in the garage.

You should know me by know John! i like options and thinking excessively about asinine things. curiosity, depending on the results of the blow by thing. also, Group 5 is somewhat of a vacant field... duratec IS interesting for "future thought" are the bellhousings patterns the same as a Duratec 2.3?

for now, if the car decides NOT to need a rebuild, im staying 2.3

None of the v6 mondeo's, Mazda AJ's, duratecs appear to ever have been mated to anything but an auto trans... difficult to find comparison pictures to extrapolate from.

The 2.5L Duratec was available with 5 speed in the Contours, most of them were replaced with the 3.0L Duratecs from the Taurus...

Whoooopieee, sideways. Still gotta turn it correct orientation and connect it to SOMETHING which means cost, work, headscratching all for basically nothing, no gain..except possibly a small weigh loss insignificant in the whole scheme of things..

Keep saying we drive cars down the stages, not motors.. Whole car package has to be kept in forefront of mind, and the big question "What advantage does this__________ offer versus that________?

I don't "like" the all iron Lima, but with a turbo, they work pretty damn good and they're free.....one hours staring at the idea is one hour not in the woods on gravel....

There's that line from the voice over (by Michael Herr---author of "Dispatches"winking smiley in the beginning of Coppola's "Apocalypse Now"....
Quote

WILLARD (V.O.)(voice over)
When I was home after my first
tour, it was worse. I'd wake up
and there'd be nothing. I hardly
said a word to my wife until I
said yes to a divorce. When I was
here, I wanted to be there. When
I was there...all I could think of
was getting back into the jungle.
I'm here a week now. Waiting for
a mission. Getting softer. Every
minute I stay in this room, I get
weaker. And every minute Charlie
squats in the bush...he gets
stronger.
Each time I looked
around...the walls moved in a little
tighter.

Each minute you spend in the garage, you get weaker. And every minute Charlie spends on gravel, he gets stronger...

Remember what the mission is

The Jaguar S-Type and Lincoln LS from the early 2000s are listed as being available with the 3l duratech and a 5 speed for rwd, Getrag 221 according to the intardnets. There are a few transmissions available on Car-part.com in the $1000 range. Who knows if they're junk or what the ratios are, though.

Oh I'll just run out to Lynwood Pull-a-part and pick up 2 or 3! Thanks!

Not much different than doing a T5 in a Volvo. What does it really matter? 3.0 Duratec with stock management, stock exhaust manifolds and airbox at 240hp? You could beat on that thing all day on pump gas, and it is G2 legal. Whats not to love about that?

we designed and made T5 to Volvo adaptor in an afternoon.
loose bellhousing made it do-able.

I suspect it'd take a bit more thought than T5 into Volvo..eye rolling smiley

Oh yeah, Contours and Mystiques had the mtx75... But I don't think they had anything other than four cylinders or the 2.5L v6 for both the regulars and the SVT's
