Short conversation with Gene last night about maybe building a PNW rally anarchy clubbie floater car for use by members in need, like you wadded your car, or Grant wants to come rally in the PNW, or one of you back east fools, you get the idea. It would be a group effort, Gene is willing to help with cage, I can do the mechanical, maybe JVAB semi super bitchin used suspenders ect. Would need some seats donated, belts and a few other things. User pays for any broken parts, and a small re-fresh fee to cover the wash and fluids.
Who would be willing to make a small monetary donation, or donate parts and time? We were thinking very basic car, nothing fancy, stock brakes, short final drive, and a good going over mechanically. G2 non turbo. I vote Volvo. |

Good idea but I know of 3 caged and mostly done Xratties: One in ballard owned by "Seattle Scott" Koch, one in Spokane owned by "Spokane Scott" and one in Puyallup owned by some guy named "Administrator" who lives inside this computer..
90% done. Water plumbing and brake hoses and diff kits more or less... All would need roof bars and maybe a second door bar. John, I am all for finishing your car, and would love to be part of a work party to do that, but that is not the thought for a project like this. This car needs to be as basic and simple as possible. G2 for sure. Your car will be a cossie powerd G5 or open 4x4 rocket, would you really pass that around to anyone that wants it? With a Volvo, as you know, when said person hits a stump and bends the fender, it gets what ever color is at the pick n pull at the moment. Really hard to do with an XR...
Would either of these Scotts sell their car cheap? |

What do you have to do to be in the club?
If its a volvo I formally donate a motor, FI system, and an axle. And some of the 83-up struts. I have a bunch of trannys but it shoud be a t5, lets see, what else can I get rid of... Looking for Volvo 242? PM me, I probably have a line on one for cheap... |

The car needs to be a totally 'club' owned and a club effort. Not sure who or how to determine membership or ownership.
I can easily afford a car, even a dreaded AWD turbo car but it would just sit, stupid use of money. I'd love to have a car for just one day of an event though. I think the Volvo would be best as Sean said. Plenty of talent and knowledge to build it. Stupid reliable and cheap to keep. If someone in the core group didn't need it we could always rent it out. So offer up the ideas .... |

Not my car...what are you thinking? Administrator's the third one down in Puyallup even if he's not. I think he's up in the Skye.
Agree
Whaddya yapping about my car for?
That IS the major advantage later...I was only suggesting these cause they're so near to finished before they were abandoned... Best really would probably be Spokane Scott's roller since it is just a roller. But there ARE still lots of Xratties around, piles over in Bremerton, gawd knows how many at Williams rotting, they're around...
Lot of work, and cages (Cascade install of JVAB imported kits) suspension, fuel cells etc.. What's cheap? John Vanlandingham Sleezattle, WA, USA Vive le Prole-le-ralliat www.rallyrace.net/jvab CALL +1 206 431-9696 Remember! Pacific Standard Time is 3 hours behind Eastern Standard Time. |

I am sure we can find someone to register it to. It could also be not registered, and up to the current borrower to get a temp and provide insurance. These details can be sorted. I think a borrower has to be someone in this current community, that contributes regularly. We could also vote on yes or no as a group. My feeling is for it to be there for guys like Gene, John, or to give someone who has volunteered at rallys for us the opportunity to drive, a local competitor who needs a car for an event, things like that. Not sure about total newbs, but maybe a newb with a seasoned co-driver.
A non profit club should be formed for something like this, or someone in our community who can kind of oversee the car. I would be willing to do re-prep at cost of parts after an event ect, and help out with the build, things like that. We should agree to help out the team at events when we can, things like that. Hell, use it for crap can racing. Get a few guys to commit $100 in seed money to purchase a driving donor and proceed. I am in for $100 My awesome vision has this car with a hitch, a spares package on a trailer. That way you could fly in to Seattle, pickup the car, go do a rally, drop it off on your way to the airport. That would be an epic trip for someone. If you east coast guys did the same, we could have an exchange program! |

As one of the total newbs, This is how I'd hope to get involved. If I'd go in for $100/whatever, At some point (AFTER they who put actual time in the car) I'd like to be able to use it as a way to get some exp by Co'ing, etc. I figure its like paying to be part of the cool kids, i suppose... Sounds like a great idea. I would give a nudge-nudge to building a Honda.
Get an B18b (LS) or B20b (CR-V) motor, slap on a B16 trans (3.23/2.105/1.458/1.107/.848) and put a straight cut 4.9 final drive on it from GearX. Top speed will be ~116mph @7000rpm in 5th. Put that in any Honda Civic from 1992-2000 or Integra from 1992-2001. George Douganis can help with mirror of his Bilstein suspension specs for a $1500 setup that will work well. If Paul is throwing in free brakes that would be even better but you can just use OEM integra brakes and be perfectly fine while allowing the car to run on 14" and 15" wheels. Motor <$800 Trans $300 Final drive $500 Suspension $1500 Donor Car <$2000 Disc brake conversion $200 You'll have 1.8 or 2.0L of torque to work with, no VTEC so less wiring issues, ~140hp to play with which is fine when combined with the gear ratios, good suspension travel, nice low curb weight, and plenty of parts available both OEM and aftermarket on the cheap. |

I am this summer with my spare Integra I have sitting in my garage. Although, it's going to be an LS/VTEC motor and will be my girlfriend's toy to play with when we go to track days, it will be our recce car on events we drive it to, or back up car for when I crash the Civic again. |

Sounds like the PNW and midwest club cars are picked out. What you guys over on the east coast going to build? Looking for Volvo 242? PM me, I probably have a line on one for cheap... |

Don't really know if my car will effectively be the central/midwest club car. It's probably not going to be caged this year and just get the engine/trans over the summer when I swap motors on the Civic.
My girlfriend and I call the integra our pickup truck because it's got nice rear space when the hatch is open and we used it for hauling just about everything from tires, sheets of aluminum, picking up a 46" TV, etc. But once it got a rusted fuel line it's been on jack stands and I bought a Mazda2 to replace it, and I hate working on cars I don't need to from October-March in Michigan. |
