So im curious if Peltor will be bring out a helmet under a new standard. Im in the market for a new helmet, but buying new is foolish at this point. And used ones are hard to come by. Im guessing Peltor is trying this out the current stock for as long as possible?

they use the British Standard BS 6658-85 type A/FR which is FIA legal until the end of 2013. There have been no announcements to go beyond that.
From RA bulletin #1 4. I know the RA rule. I wrote the Bulletin. We are following FIA's time table for no longer accepting BSI "red label" helmets. IIRC, the MSA (the UK sanctioning body) will accept them for two years after that.
As far as the US, NRS has not announced how long they will continue to accept BSI helmets. As you note, most Peltor helmets are certified to the BSI standard. I have been told that FIA 8860 certified helmets exist. However, I question this because no Peltor helmets are listed on the FIA technical list of 8860 compliant helmets. alan |

I was looking at their website i could find no mention of any ratings except the 6658-85. Perhaps they are waiting? Which is unfortunate for me since my peltor is damaged, and i need a new helmet and buying one that will be good for two years doesn't appeal to me.

Alan: How does 8858 factor in, where the FIA has approved the Peltor G70, G77 and G90 for HANS use? http://www.fia.com/resources/documents/826942018__list_29_app_hans_system.pdf "Talk about drugs. The lead that RA is following is FIA Technical List #25. It is the list of FIA recognized helmet standards. I think that the list is referenced in the FIA Article 253. It only applies to events covered by the FIA regulations (like FIA Championship rounds). However, some groups, such as MSA, may choose to continue to accept the BSI standard for a longer period. If they require H&NR and continue to accept BSI helmets, BSI helmets need them to remain in Technical List 29. As I noted on SS, I think that Peltor created this problem by certifying their helmets to BSI instead of going to Snell long ago. alan Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 12/17/2011 01:08AM by tipo158. |

I have absolutely no idea how i didnt see the G79. So if its only comes with HANS posts, and i have a Hutchens, im thinking i should be okay in taking off the HANS posts to install the Hutchens? Im deployed, cant see the things. Nor do i have any HANS equipped helmet stuffs.

See this:
http://www.specialstage.com/forums/showthread.php?44266-Peltor-Intercom-meta-thread&highlight=peltor There are new Peltors available with Snell and/or FIA stickers. Make sure you don't buy one with only a BS 6658-85 type A/FR sticker (unless maybe it's really, really cheap and you can amortize it over 2 years). press on, just a poor, dumb, Michigan navie |
