The dipwads have announced Kurtie Spitzer's old bullshit about using photgraphs of your own car yourself in any advert or whatever as violating THEIR assertion that those cocksuckers own all images of your own car during an event that you get to pay over a 1000 bucks to enter.
Here's a highlight: "Photography is for editorial use only. Any other use, including but not limited to commercial and promotional use, is expressly prohibited and strictly enforced. Still images and footage may not be used for any commercial or retail purposes whatsoever, and may only be used for promotional purposes upon written permission of Rally America and the athlete(s) depicted in such image(s). Streaming of any and all video is strictly prohibited in all circumstances. Streaming rights are the exclusive property of Rally America." Havir, Mr. RA, comes into the sport and goes to the notorious Vermont Sportscar for a full-on Sub-a-rat as a rank beginner, does a few events, flipping the car several times, but is obviously a suck-buddy of the meglomaniac loser Kurt Spitzer, and when Spitzner succeeded in destroying the relationship of the Rally community with SCCA, accomplishing in just a few short years what we had not done in 35, and Havir steps in to "Buy the rights to "Rally" from SCCA for "a dollar". Spitzner and Havir seemed to be pretty buddy-buddy, with Spitzner sppeding, passing on the double yellow, and driving like an utter asshole out Shelton-Matlock road to render aide to Havir's flipped car by supervising the placements of tarps to hind the failure of the VT Sportscar ulta-lite cage when Havir flipped in Shelton. Where do these corporate asshole get off thinking they own images of YOUR car? People ought to write on the back of their checks: Deposit of the check will be proof of a binding contract to remunerate the drawee to the rate of $5000 for each media impression of any image, reference, or report of the drawee name, car, crew etc. Or better yet, just give Rally America what they have earned: John Vanlandingham Sleezattle, WA, USA Vive le Prole-le-ralliat www.rallyrace.net/jvab CALL +1 206 431-9696 Remember! I just saw that thread. Outrageous to say the least. Like I said in my reply on SS, the events are too expensive, the build requirements are too expensive, and now the average Joe, who drops the bulk of a month's salary (if not all of it) on entry can't get photos of his efforts because the only photogs in attendance will be "on editorial assignment." What a load of fucking bullshit. I hope the attendance numbers say it all this year. I'm not even going to volunteer to work an RA event.

I'm going to wait to see how this is really put into effect, but if it is what it sounds like it is, they are guaranteed to be driving away business with it...I'll be going North and NASA if I can't promote with images and video from the stages without RA permi$$ion.

written permission to use footage i shoot in my own car with my own camera is retarded. i suppose that grant can no longer put "nocoastmotorsports" on any of the videos that he puts out because they are technically promoting rally, him, or anything in the view finder. if there is incar, are you promoting yourself by showing the video or posting the video? what about the car, are you promoting the brand, make, or model by driving that particular vehicle in the event? and since when did i sign my rights away? is it when i enter the event, when i register, when i get my competitors license? what if i shoot from the spectator area? what if i hike to a spot on public land? what if i get permission from the person who's driveway the road goes by? at what point does crashing out constitute no longer being in the rally because if i go off and can't continue, when does the clause for video expire? while i'm pulling the car out? after it's on the trailer? the road permits expire?
it sounds so broad, over-reaching, and nonspecific.... fucking annoyingly restrictive. -Mark www.nocoastmotorsports.net |

Havir's car was built by Prodrive, not Vermont Sportscar. Havir was the only customer (the only "sucker" he once told me) that they ever had.
Other than that, fuck 'em. RA is digging their own grave. I'll take all the pictures and stream all the video I want, what are they gonna do, sue me for posting a picture or video of my own car? Bring it on... The way to get around all that B.S. is to just not apply for a press credential. Just take pictures stealth commando style. If they catch you what are they going to do, kick you out of the forest? Call the police? Just sneak back in somewhere else. |

I feel like I'm in bizzaro-world. I honestly believe this is some attempt to end rally for good in the U.S. Whoesever idea this was should have many sleepless nights. I'm going to tell anyone who will listen to boycott RA events. Everyone: please come and run events in Canada.
Edit: This bothers me so much that I will service on my own dime the first team to drop Snow Drift and come and run Peirce Neige-Maniwaki. Gone fishing Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 01/09/2008 07:53AM by david amor. |

How does that sound? Cheers, Anders Grassroots rally. It's what I think about. |

I'm bummed!
Because I never entered one of their events (save Maine w/dual sanction), I can't be counted as a boycotter. Consider this list: Sno*Drift Rally, Atlanta, MI 100 Acre Wood, Salem, MO Olympus Rally, Olympia, WA Oregon Trail Rally, Hillsboro, OR Susquehannock Trail, Wellsboro, PA New England Forest, Bethel, ME Ojibwe Forests Rally, Bemidji, MN Rally Colorado, Steamboat Springs, CO Lake Superior Rally, Houghton, MI Which one of these is the NY Times attending anyway? Except for your NW events, you'd need to refuel the helo to get to any of these from civilization. And 75% (or more) of the roads suck too. Their timing system is very nice looking tho. (who makes these decisions anyway?) |

Then you come to Canada and run PN as you were likely to do anyway, being a guy who knows about making the most from the least, and Voila: stick it to da man > > Ojibwe Forests Rally, Bemidji, MN > > Rally Colorado, Steamboat Springs, CO > > Lake Superior Rally, Houghton, MI > > Which one of these is the NY Times attending > anyway? > Except for your NW events, you'd need to refuel > the helo to get to any of these from > civilization. > And 75% (or more) of the roads suck too. > > Their timing system is very nice looking tho. > > (who makes these decisions anyway?) Ugh...Half our events in the west are RA events...
Do we need Rally America? If not, can we please get organizers to exclusively go NASA. What perks do you get by running under the RA banner? It must be something because otherwise NASA would be the obvious choice (at least for regional events). I've been thinking about this recently, how can we (the competitors) promote NASA? |
