Cody was freakin' fast. He had a distributor crap on him and he lost a bunch of time or else he'd have beat me easily. He was attacking so maximally that Dave Cizmas took pity on him when he saw the bald tars on the wee Honda and gave him some of his own to continue his MaxAttack! Havas was flying as usual. That guy just plain hauls. I enjoyed being 2wd Santa Claus. Or at least one of the elves. Michel, Jake told me after RWV last year: "You know which check I like handing out the most? That 6th place (we paid 6 places last year) one. It's always a guy who had troubles or just didn't think he did that great, but manages to hang in there for the finish." Enjoy it, man. Hintz's header has only broken twice. Once at Doo Wops it broke right below the turbo. At the next event he did, Olympus, he used the stock manifold. For Oregon Trail Doug Chase repaired the broken header but this time it broke at one of the primaries. It wasn't a bad quality header, it was actually pretty good for the money but it's been on the car with header wrap and anti-lag for three years and it's just cooked at this point. The anti-lag puts a lot of heat into it and the stainless is getting crystallized and fatigued after all this time. To be fair, it was the slip together joints that I welded up with a mig welder (I didn't have a tig at the time) that broke. Kind of amazing they held up as long as they did. In fact, I recommended Dave get another one of those headers and have Doug or me tig weld the slip together joints and it would probably last a lot longer. And because it's pretty good and pretty cheap and worth 11 horsepower at the wheels on the dyno. It was also way more trouble proof for three years than the stock cast iron manifold was. So don't automatically assume the cast iron manifold is good. I could never keep that thing from warping and leaking. Besides, the header sounds really cool. |

Wow, how magnanimous of them seeing as how they both got beat by a local regional competitor (Dave Hintz.) Perhaps closer to the truth to avoid embarassment? Just sayin'... |

Yeah, one was running for the first time in Open and taken 60hp away, basically running GrpN power, while ordered to finish because of a Rally he needs to run in 2 weeks time, 4000 miles away...and the other one was playing cards on the straightways with his codriver, because running a 3200lbs x 160 hp street car with a cage..Dude, don't write stuff if you don't know WTF you are talking about..just sayin'.. And to answer Tom's question, yes, the Regional trophies and show belong to the Regional guys and we didn't have any business in taking those away, so it was very entertaining for me in checking in early at time controls and just drive by the last one without even stopping.. Peace. PS: well done to the MaxAttackers! last weekend, there is some really GOOD talent in many of them, really enjoyed starting in the back on Leg1 and watching them run the PIR stages.. www.alexgelsomino.com |

For your first year or two, or maybe even three as you learn how to drive. Maybe it's my competitiveness. I want to win, even though I know I can't win right now, but I can't make excuses about it being the car holding me back. And that is a good feeling to me. When I place 5th out of 10 I know it's because I sucked, not because my car doesn't have ________. Dave Kern's a great example of this. He built a really high spec, cool GTX. But he couldn't place that high in it because it just couldn't compete with the higher torque and fancy diffs/suspension of the top guys. So now he's probably 50K+ or so into his new Evo, making 362 whp on E85, and placed third in the last hill climb on stock suspension. His Ohlins just came in and he will likely win sometime soon. There's others here that are just as good of drivers as the top guys but are fighting for 5th or 6th place in class because they are in a $15K turbo Impreza. In 2WD, the big battle for first and second was between a NA Golf and a Neon SRT4. The missing competitor, but record holder in 2WD for every hill climb was in a FWD turbo Eclipse with KYB GR2 suspension. Grant Hughes |

The inquiry at the end of the event for 2WD pisses me off. I remember hearing some stories about some fucked up things that teams would do to try to improve their place or get competitive advantages by a certain now retired top AWD team and was disappointed to see this happen. Maybe it's a regular thing and I just don't read the boards often enough to see them.

I never believe Dave when he states numbers. He tried to say his new car was only 300 hp, then later talking to Aaron, who was with him when it was on the dyno being tuned, tells me it was actually 362.
The GTX had a built 1.8 with a GT28RS, Link ECU, nice intercooler, free exhaust with no cat most of the time, dogbox, etc. It'd take a pretty incompetent tuner to get to 120-140 and a pretty amazing driver to do as well as he did in that car. Grant Hughes |

Thats the first time I have ever seen alex in the left seat.
Alex are you talking about a RWD to drive or ride in shouting orders? Man what a rally. Was doing service for the 466 FX16 and after the first service all the teams around us started packing up. Because of the canceled stages I thought they had canceled a service and I wasn't aware of it. NOPE! They were all just going car fishing! Brian and Josh finished and especially this weekend I think that is something they should be proud of. I kept waiting to use the big hammer but no mishaps, mechanically any ways. Zap zap my ass... |

Alex, Dude, I know exactly WTF I'm talking about. I was there, I know what cars you guys were running. Just trying to stir the pot, shake the tree, just sayin'. Guess it worked, I shook you out of lurker mode. Now we know you guys really do read Rally Anarchy. Don't be so thin skinned, we do a lot of ribbing around here, it just means we care. Maybe I should instead say kudos to Dave Hintz for beating Ken Block while he was playing cards... |
