Besides for how ridiculously expensive national entry fees have become with RA, my personal view is it is going ok (RA wise). The foggs haven't completely screwed everything up-ish, seems like lots of people are going to multiple national events.
We'll see if that was just built on the momentum RA was gaining before the foggs for next year. |

Ken Block, with his Monster Energy Drink sponsorship, is back running the full RA championship in a Ford Fiesta grocery getter... so things must be going well!

Yet the national guys seem to pay it without complaining. They can always pay a regional fee if the cost really mattered to them. If they'll pay it, why complain? Just means a little cheaper or entry fees staying the same for the regional guys. Subaru stepping up the contingency more also helped. 100AW was quite cheap for me. |

"They" do? from here it looks like you're speaking for an awful lot of people.. And it appears that you know exactly how many "Club" teams decided to just enter the club event because of whatever reason---put another way, you know that the entry fee wasn't why x number of clubbies didn't enter the "National" because of the absurd, ridiculously extortionate "National" entry fee.
Then why not jack it up to 10k per National entry?... Those that want to buy results will happily pay it... it's only money.
Oh? Really? Then why have regional entry fees gone up 800% in this century??
Yeah and it used to be good for some other brands when there was an Series Title Sponsor. Which the series did have for decades until oh wait, when? This seems like an easy statement to prove or disprove. Average national early entry fee in 2012 vs same events in 2013 went up by some large number, maybe 60%? I haven't calculated. Average early regional full distance 2012/2013 did what? Again, I haven't done any calculations. But I didn't make the statement. Anybody care to? Cheers, Anders Grassroots rally. It's what I think about. |

over the RA events held so far:
total entries down ~9% This year National entries make up 44% Last year National entries made up 43% So the buying habits haven't changed much in terms of market share while the price of a National Entry increased significantly (MUCH more than COLA, that's for sure) and the cost of regionals didn't move anywhere near as much and in some cases - specifically for the first 10 subarus - it dropped significantly. (Our entry to Oregon was $450 for all of the regionals) I don't have an archive of entry fees handy so I don't know for sure how much has moved but a 50% increase sounds about right. This century? (as in the 2000's, or the past 100 years) Are you saying there were $100 entry fees for regional events in 2000? Are you saying you could have entered a regional event for $100 at some point in the past 100 years? We used to have sub$100 regional or divisional events out here and $300 or less nationals back in the 80s. However most of those events had no road fees being charged and little or no repair fees. Really not a fair comparison of pricing to lay it all off on sanctioning fees.

Don't let facts get in the way of a good forum post by JVL At least for 100AW, regional entry fees have only gone up 19% in 10 years and Jemba notes by 23%. And actually, if I adjust the entry fees according to the inflation calculator on the US Bureau of labor statistics website, entry fees have actually gone DOWN. I don't know where 800% is coming from. Maybe some events have gone up by that much. I'd like to know which. |

You are insane. (insert big smiley.) Fuckin children. (insert Jewish Tant slapping forehead) wages are not up 800% since just say 1990... But "Club entries are.. Trust who ever you want but I would bet on my memory more than Gene's---gene got all married and dropped out somewhere in this time period. Seattle Median Household income grew from 41,500 in 1990 to 91,000 in 2010 or
$41,500(X^20) = $91,000 IE wages grew at 3.1%/year over that time The entry fee for 1988 Doo Wops was $250. Entry Fee for Oregon Trail Regional was $773 in 2013 the math works out to 4.6% annual growth over the 25 years but Doo Wops was always a lower cost rally than Doo Wops so 4.6% is likely overstated. Put another way if growth was equal between the two and the rallys were the same that 1988 $250 entry should be $536 today. My personal wages grew by infinity between 1989 and today as I was a college student back when I did my first rally working very part time. If someone has entry fee data I can work out growth rates for them... In the long run reality always wins. |
