I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I started reading this thread...

Disclaimer: I didn't read all 6 years of posts! I don't have time for that, I'm trying to save rally!

2 problems with rally as a en vogue sport.

1. I live in a town where there is a rally. Never knew about. 6 years later I am looking into building a car and find out there is a rally here! WTF? I teach high school auto shop! Seems like the first place to promote/post fliers/guest speak with cars to wow the crowd. #1 problem, lack of promotion/ exposure.

2. Let's say I heard about a rally race and think to myself, "why not give it a try?" So I show up to the race. Let's say I even happen to have a fairly capable but stock vehicle. Event organizer says, "you don't have a cage, helmet, suit, etc. go spend $5000 and come back next year." That potential rally racer is gone. There needs to be a way for people to show up day of and get in a car. Loner cars (horribly underpowered of course)? Third seat for a ride along? Now organizer can say, "oh your car is not prepped? Here are the keys to that civic that is. Sign this waiver, give us $xx for rental and insurance. An instructor will take you out and show you the ropes for 30 minutes before the race.

That would save rally!

Woo Hoo! Thanks!

You're not saying much for your profession.
I guess I wasted 12 years in public school and my college experience when I could have just shown up with a checkbook.

How do you mean? (the quote about my profession)

Not sure I understand the education waisted thing either... I was just recommending a way for people to get into cars. I was not belittling education in any way...

Ok, what I'm getting at and what you probably don't know, is that rally is one of the most dangerous things you can do. It isn't to be entered on a whim and unless you have learned the rules and procedures, you'll be lost before you leave the parc. No organizer wants you to play in their sandbox as a novice screwing up all the work they've done and make what was to be a good event dangerous for the competitors, sweep and everyone else. Roads can be lost too easily from newbies goofing off on transits. Going the wrong way could result in and a couple more deaths that would make insurance even more expensive than it is.
The good news is there are Rally Crosses (RallyX) that will let new people participate, that's what you are looking for.
Learn from watching, reading, attending and asking questions but don't belittle the people involved by saying you should be able to walk off the street and rally. That's like saying you should be able to ask for a loaner helmet and play in the NFL or do brain surgery because it sounds like fun.

Kitty smiles has rental cars for the new guy that just wants to get there feet wet. Its pricey for someone to just do a 1 weekend rental for kicks. I get what your saying and agree if managed correctly.

It's as close as I have to a "home rally" but I have to travel for work. I have a love/hate relationship with that rally.

They read 67 pages of how. Then did what they could from what they learned! So I guess seeing that you started this thread you saved club rally Anders!

74 entries with a few other notable names not on the list yet. Wouldn't surprise me to see almost 76 cars. Pretty awesome
