Not ready for more stuff right yet. Have to focus on the Subaru for a couple more events, then back to the XR.
I'll let you know! Cheers! John http://www.lastditchracing.com http://www.triplecaution.us |
Wow, 5 months already!
Thought I'd post some sort of update. Our engine is just about done for the Merkur. Nothing crazy done to it. Just gone through with new pistons, rings, cam etc. The usual. I bought a baffle kit for the oil pan that we'll weld in at some point. We still have plenty of cage work to do. I'm still at a loss as to what tranny I need. I need spoon feeding here! I remember JV mentioning a Camaro tranny from a certain year? I really don't remember now. That's what happens when too much time goes by! In other LDR news, we finally had our Hydra EMS in the WRX tuned by Iain at Planet Motorsport in Toronto. He gained us a bit over 100bhp from where we started! Of course, the event after that was Tall Pines, where we couldn't really use it. Heading to Team O'Neil rally in a couple of weeks and won't be able to use it there either! Hopefully 100AW will let us explore the powerband a bit further! ;-) Snow, snow snow is all we've had for weather lately. Storm yesterday gave us another 10" or so. Tomorrow is sort the snow-tire day. Cheers! John http://www.lastditchracing.com http://www.triplecaution.us |

How time flys.
![]() The longer you wait, the more stuff there is to buy. 100 hp just tuning! Wow. The tuning must have been stupidly conservative to begin with. Watch the advance though before you go too crazy with it. Some engine "tuners" will like to tune for power and give stupid amount of advance to deliver the highest whp on the dyno at the expense of longevity. Grant Hughes |
Grant, I hear you! The tune on the WRX is a, "safe," tune that gives us good EGR's across the powerband. That's not to say we're not dumping fuel like most Open class guys. 12mpg or perhaps 8mpg. ;-)
0 degrees here this AM and I have to decide whether to bundle up and schlep tires across town. Time for a tire machine. Cheers! John http://www.lastditchracing.com http://www.triplecaution.us |

He doesn't tune for max power, he tunes for good torque and with reliability in mind. Being Scottish he's umm frugal and he doesn't want good customers engines going kaboom. Gone fishing |
Yup, "boom," is not a good adjective for anything related to rally! ;-)
