This is what happens when people try to build a car in a vacuum. Talk to your local scrutineer asap!
If I were you I would walk away from the car altogether. That cage in a rabbit is a disaster. I am really sorry for you. Take it as a hard lesson learned. Ask Tom B. about Rabbits. Ask Chris Kobayashi about first time cage builders. Robert. "You are way too normal to be on Rally Anarchy." Eddie Fiorelli. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 12/11/2012 08:14PM by Rallymech. |

Aaaarrrggghhh...ok I can't be quiet any longer.
That cage is a do over. The main hoop cannot have the bottom legs bent in like that. The front legs are too far inward. Halo hoops (looks like it too me) are not acceptable for RA events. Rear backstays are in too far and shouldn't go past the shock mounts. No gussets at any of the required points (doesn't really matter at this point). Can't see the mounts well but I'm guessing they are awesome also... Look at the construction in this thread.. http://www.rallyanarchy.com/phorum/read.php?5,61137 Gene McCullough NRS west scrutineer Carry on... |

Wow. I'm pretty upset to say the least but oh well move on I guess. Just to be clear I printed off the NASA Rally Cage specs and gave it to the guy to follow. I even gave them some pictures to follow. I do blame somewhat of my self for not knowing all the terms and what not but for $2k I was hoping they would. Waiting for replys from the shop to see about the redo. Thanks for all the help guys.
What they want to know and what I'll be sending them. Back stays must tie into rear Rear of main b pillar hoop needs to stay straight and not bend inward No halo front legs need to go farther outward (towards firewall) gussets cage needs to be closer to the body Hows that sound? |

tie into the rear suspension, not just the rear. you can probably google rally cars and proper cages and get visuals

I built my own cage this summer and got it logbooked. It is much rougher than seans cage, but it is in Nampa and you are more than welcome to come by and look sometime after christmas.
The cage in Dan's car is also much nicer than mine and would be a better reference. I can refer you to a phenomenal welder who would probably refuse the job unless you are on hand to assist in reading the rules and directing where the bars go. He did 90% of the welding in my cage, but is not a rally guy so I bent up and tacked the bars in place and he welded them. I'd also be more than happy to assist in bending the pipes, but my schedule is pretty booked and I have my own car to finish. (however dan and alex will tell you all you have to do is lure me in with the promise of beer) On the plus side there are a lot of good long lenghts of steel still left in your cage, and whatever the steel company JVL referred me to was able to deliver all the steel I needed to my door for under $350 |

Rally Alex 2, that above is the thing, gotta persue what you can with these guys who made this and do what you can to make it as least painful and costly as possible. look at the help that has jumped in here. That's what this forum is all about. See right in the quote AJ got a tip on steel and paid 1/2 what a lotta guys pay.. Right here is the north American home of Cheap as Humanly Possible Rally, and I'm the cheapest bastid here. Now here's sumpin outta left field... You're going to have to re-do the cage somehow, as in start over.. In your deepest heart of heart have you ever looking upon a Golf with lust in your heart.. CONFESS! Welll? If you say no I'm going say I dun't believe you.. Why not a Golf? The Golf has its problems but it is twice the car a Rare-bit is..Oh I hear ya asking what's this Rare-bit shit? Well 20 years ago they common as dogshit here in Sleezattle but maybe 13 years ago you'd see one a month and one every 3 months in the "Rally Spare Parts Storage Depots" that cynical bastids call "Junk yards" They became seldom seen cars...Rare. And all the parts, the bits you WILL need like grills and hoods and roof panels and doors and windsheild are now rare-bits. truth is Golves are also rare now, at least MkIIs.. Thing is when you have these $2000 cages, you're going to be married to the car for a while so you have to think about the longer term about patching the poor thang back to something vaguely resembling a car WHEN not if you wad it.... You say you won't wad it up? A once wise man once said: "you have to be wondering did he fired 5 times or 6, so the question is, " ![]() So ![]() Well? Do ya?
