You mean you didn't build it for the contingency?
Who was it that built the SP car then cried a bunch on specialstage then cried a bunch more on specialstage about contingency. He also punched or threatened to punch Caswell at 100AW and works for Exedy. I can't remember his name, but he built his car based on contingency. smiling smiley

There's always other ways to have a good time. If I ever get just flat-out tired of car shit, I know a lot of people who are into competitive shooting. Sounds like a lot of fun, and you don't need two garages, a basement, and three storage lockers to hold all your stuff.

Off to drive the RX-7 to Tulsa. (Tow vehicle? Whuzzat?)

I am going to start doing biatholon this winter. There's a place about an hour away that has a loop and range. They even have rental guns and I've been wanting to get some new decent XC skis for a few years.

Sounds fun, my daughters started archery last winter and this summer my 10 year old asked if she could try knife throwing as a hobby.

I see those on steepandcheap occasionally but never when I have some spare loot. I also really like hucking full size axes.
I want one of these.

ah very true. i forgot they wont deny you from racing. my biggest though with that is rally car... 3.0? would be nice to make some reasonable power but a 1.8 miata engine isnt always so good at that

soooooo alex, what about about a vg30e, or vg30et or vg30de or vg30det.

the vg30e came in Mercury Villager.

"outside box thinking"

i read cool things about those motors, decent power outputs with even the SOHC motors.

and then the later yeared villagers had the vg33.

just more food for thought.

VQ30DE ended up in a whole bunch of FWD stuff and evidently can be made to bolt up to a rwd transmission. If I were somewhere where it would be practical to rally, and were a Nissan perv instead of a Mazda perv, I'd look into that into a non-box 240SX.

VQ, not VG; VQ30 never came in RWD cars, but lots of Maximas.

Just an update.... FR-S/BR-Z transmissions abound in junkyards now, they didn't even exist when this thread was started. Can find them for under $400 shipped on eBay, too.

Here's the ratios:

3.626
2.188
1.541
1.213
1.0
0.767

Ignore 1st and you have a close ratio 4 speed with a nice overdrive, not bad for $400. Looks like the generic Aisin 6-speed that is used in damn near every other Japanese rear-driver in the past fifteen years. Uses a push style clutch and bolts up to EJ engines. Only weird thing is the starter is hanging off the right side, not the left, so not sure what this does for firewall clearance.

Everything I’ve seen and read is this transmission won’t bolt up to the EJ engines.
