Appreciate the offer, but I am not motivated to go that far in my quest to drop some weight. I have more hanging off my midsection that I need to lose than the windows will save. The hatch is definitely heavy though and pretty easy to work with. John Reed John Reed Racing www.johnreedracing.com johnreedracing@gmail.com |

Someone once replied "How much do you weigh" when I mentioned wanting to lighten the car by various methods. "buck forty" I replied. "...oh." Is what I got back haha. Though, somehow, I'm down to 135..... I'm 5'10.... Guess that means... MOAR PIZZA! Welcome to the cult of JVL drink the koolaid or be banned. |

I drove a friends drag race car, I consistantly cut a 10th of a second off his best times,
he wondered why. He weights close to 90lbs more than I do... Yeah, rocket surgery... SteveL This is the point in the killing spree when you really should turn the gun on yourself |

Figured I would drag my own thread back from the brink of death, been a long winter of ignoring the car but with Oregon Trail looming it is time for some maintenance and of course doing some updates and improvements (some of which are to improve the car for rally, and some are just me being a nerd).
Added a flex fuel sensor. I plan to tune the car for E85 to see if any power gains are to be found, and this will allow me to set the ECU up to cope with any blend of ethanol and gasoline in the tank without skipping a beat. Plus it is nice to just deal with the fact that some stations have the oxygenated fuel and some don't (which in Portland has been running about 7-8% ethanol). The sensor also spits out the fuel temp on the same signal, which is a nice thing to keep tabs on (and compensate for) as well. Something I have always wanted, and wish every car I tuned had, is individual cylinder widebands. So finally got around to installing mine since I am getting the header built for the car anyway. Modules installed, sensors all air calibrated, just waiting on a fab guy to build the header: More to come, just gotta find time to do it! Some more eye candy for the Corolla, my 40mm front suspension back from John :
The JVAB stuff on the Corolla was a very early design (along with me beating it to death) and John updated the design, set me up with new tubes and fresh inserts. It also means the 40mm struts and the new 50mm JVAB struts will interchange on the car without changing spindles, which will make for easier servicing/spares. Thanks to John for the good service and always answering all my stupid questions. Now I am VERY excited to see the 50mm porn.... Gawddamit John you haven't asked one single stupid question.. I woulda told you if you had. Dammit I wish more people would use their noggins like you're doing and not get crazy "Bwilliant Plans", just a good simple solid car with some motor, good gearing , good brakes, suspenders and give it some gas... Seems to work! John Vanlandingham Sleezattle, WA, USA Vive le Prole-le-ralliat www.rallyrace.net/jvab CALL +1 206 431-9696 Remember! Pacific Standard Time is 3 hours behind Eastern Standard Time. |

Well finally getting time to work on the car. Looking forward to Oregon Trail, but also just having a blast working on the car and putting some upgraded parts on it.
Special thanks to Blake and Kris who came over the other night and knocked out re-drilling a axle for me to replace the one I bent. Blake also made me some sick new lower links for rear end, but will show those off in my next post. Alex at PSI finished the fab work on my header. Came out awesome, looks even better in person: I got a new clutch for the car, finally. Pressed my luck running the clutch that came with the engine (never even looked at it, survived 2 rallies, a rallycross and a drift event). Was down to 25% and the throw out bearing was about to throw out. This also weighs 25lbs complete versus the roughly 42lbs for the stock unit. Should rev a bit better! My "maybe I should service the front ball joints" turned into getting a set of beefy control arms and tension rods from Toyota Techno Tuning. Top notch stuff, been great dealing with them (they did my front brake kit also): John got my super dooper JVAP suspension back to me all fixed up as brand new (and a month early to boot). He also converted to a Subie style mounting which will make the strut easier to service in the future and the 50mm stuff will drop right in when it is done. Alex made a sleeve to join the mounts John sent to my stock knuckles. End result came out awesome: All new, fixed up and greeeeeeeeeeeen! So much easier to work with now, and have a bit of camber adjustment to boot (plus the adjustment provided by the new lower arms): And I have spent way too much time looking at Corolla and Mk2 Escort crap over in Ireland. So much so that this form fitted kevlar rock guard somehow found its way to my door from the land of Guinness: John Reed John Reed Racing www.johnreedracing.com johnreedracing@gmail.com |

Never too nice to rally, I can't wait to throw gravel at all those shiny bits! It is a fun journey building/modifying it though. And I would watch Megan Fox mop my floor any day... LOL John Reed John Reed Racing www.johnreedracing.com johnreedracing@gmail.com |
