Yep but it works for some folks. all that iron holds then together
i still would go with 92-94mm piston and a set of side drafts

I would rather drive a slow car fast as a fast car slow!

What are you talking about?
If you hit "quote" when you reply then there is some chance that those who really try to understand might have a fighting chance.

"it"...what "it"? what iron?

What was the "Group 4 " you mentioned earlier??

I don't think we're on the same page.

Yeah the iron
Is nice. So is the steel crank.
Its the piss poor head with horrid chamber and those dumb pain in the ass rockers that is not so good.
And the pistons aren't so nice.

which WAS the subject.

And yeah there was Gp4. Of course that would be a museum piece now..
And since i somehow always fall into thinking are actually speaking about reality and actually building and actually pounding on things, I didn't understand the reference...

According to Ahemed Bayjoo in a long phone conversation, he said "its all about the distance the flame has to travel"

We have very limited time to burn the mix in the hole, and as we all know gas burns and higher octane burns slower/cooler and that works against what we might want---but above all we dont want instantaneous explosions..
Take some Honda/VW thing (please!) , the cars actually MOVE, and sometimes they move real well. They have say 81.5 bore. How long does it take to burn across fully just 81.5mm... We'll say "this long".....it burns across 81.5mm and move the car "real good" and its DONE.

Then look at some old school thing like a Ford or Volvo 2300 both being exact same bore and stroke (and head bolt spacing) of 96mm x 80mm.
Spark! flames moves oh say 81.5mm and as we saw from the previous example, the temp/pressure was pretty damn good--enough to move a car at that point.. Well the Ford/Volvo thing still has a long way to go except now temp and pressure in the hole is pretty high...
There's the danger for the REST of the stuff to simply light off---detonate because the temp/pressure is so high..
Glad you brought this up and it all makes snese. I can remember back in my street drag racing days in the 70's reading everything I could about engines and there was a lot of work on piston and combustion chamber shapes in the drag and V8 worlds to cause swirl when the piston dome approached TDC, and other designs of piston tops to squeeze the mixture over to near the spark plug and close off the area far away from the spark plug. I don't suppose there is any such a piston top type for the engines in question?

I know a had a great time with the 22r powered celica and the 2.6turbo starion. not the
New tech but just plain fun.

i best bang for the buck on most any rally car is in the suspension then tyres .
