Hey Dave can you dig up some confirmed basic numbers---like deck height on the 2,0; the 2,3; and the new 2,5 Duratec or whatever Mazdog calls them??

Gotta start collecting dims for a project.

Why the 2.5 and not the 2.0 or 2.3L? I would think the 2.5L is going to be pricey to come by right now compared to the other two. And the power increase might be nominal since you will likely not be able to spin it as fast.

For the same reason I used a 2,3 block with a 2,0 crank last time I did a Duratec.

Same reason I used a 2,6 Mitsu and a 2,0 Mistu crank.

2,5 Duratec BLOCK is bored to 89mm and is reputed to be approx 19mm TALLER

(I build good motors, been building good internal designs for over 20 years. So I always check the available stock parts then select the individual parts to tailor a build. A motor with sucj a nice flowing head asks for a bottom end that can work with it. The bigger 89mm bore---to start with-- is a plus.
The taller deck height means there's a good chance I can do rods with longer c-c for a mo better rod/ stroke ratio using either a 2,3 or 2,0 STEEL crank.
This is for a FAST ROAD CAR project.

For a rally project say into a good rwd platform like oh I dunno a Xratty, I'd say "Fuckit shove in a Mazda steel crank, own import rods in a Pickup block and call it good."

We all know that 230bhp is more than enough in a 2wd car on gravel.

Me I wanna find out what the bellhousing bolt pattern on that there 2.3 lump looks like. It'd be kinda fun to have a truly competitive open light car, as opposed to an obsolete open car...

Jay what transmission are you bolting it to? I know that Lurch create a cad drawing of the 2.3L that he used when he bolted his xtrac up to the Mazda one.

Jay CHECK CAREFULLY all the possible oil quantities and QUALITIES and find all the fill holes!!!
That fucker is STOUT, but there's like 3-4 drains and who knows how many fillers.

Only thing that will kill that is NO OIL.

Jay, you find a decent cooler to plumb in?
Got some drive axles sorted?

Drive axles are a non issue, they'll talk to my hubs without mods. Gotta find an alltrac rear shaft though and maybe shorten it. Got a ways to go before I gotta worry about that however... I could use the cooler that's in the car but think I'll upgrade.

Sorry guys, I just noticed this thread. I'll check the 2.5 MZR dimensions tomorrow.

Meanwhile, fun fact on the 2.5: bigger ports!

On the bellhousing pattern, all the MZR/Duratecs have the same pattern, so Lurch's data should do the trick.

JVL, is this an FF or FR project? Trying to look retro too, or just going fast?
