Apparently they tried a volunteer championship out in your area a couple years ago in connection with the WSRC. From what I heard, it was a lot of work and did not accomplish the desired effect, and so they stopped. Like most ideas, this doesn't mean the idea can't work, it only means that in that geographic area, in that era, with that event density, it didn't work. I was thinking of the other way: giving racers points toward their racing championship for volunteering. There are already some examples, past and current, of this, most commonly seen in "organizer points". It's mostly seen in TSD rallies series as there is a much higher percentage of TSD organizers that still actively compete. Anders Grassroots rally. It's what I think about. |

PNW seems to do ok. Basically, what I am getting out of this is that this big, gaping hole of insufficient population density called the west in the US is causing people to say rally is dieing? Come on guys. Saskatchewan and Manitoba also have zip for rallying, and it's not like it's dieing here. I think the point of this thinking game is that for anything to thrive, you need some sort of base population. Bad places for rallying, if I had to hazard a guess with no research whatsoever. |
