Yeah. My thought is just batch all the data and hold it... when/if signal is found send it. Design it for crappy cell signal with the expectation of intermittant connection and it will eventually get out.

And that wouldn't stop it from doing anything that it's doing now.

Yeah, the intermittent cell coverage wouldn't be that big of a deal to overcome as long as there was SOME cell coverage.. That and spectators were allowed, we've got a few rallies out here where that doesn't seem to fly, probably insurance and BLM, but that really doesn't make us seem very inviting.

I'm heading down to the King Of Hammers race to volunteer in 2 weeks. They've grown a lot since the first one in 07 or 08, something they are doing is attracting competitors and spectators.

I know this year every competitor is forced to have an iridium sat tracker in the vehicle. While they are kinda complaining about the $$ of it, the thing does provide some interesting benefits. First, if the vehicle has a hard stop someone is immediately notified. This would probably work better in the southwest than northeast given the trees. It also updates a map online so you can see where each competitor is and some data like how fast they were going last.

That coupled with the u-stream 'web-tv' coverage actually makes it something that's not too bad to spectate from the comfort of your own house/desk/work...

You know what's crazy. There are 64 rallyist in Colorado that have or started building rally cars. There's almost 100 that have owned a rally car in the last five.

Colorado needs more rally! Being towards the middle of country makes most of the events rather far.

You'd be surprised how many coders (project managers and 'architects') I've run into never seem to consider that case in mobile. Must be from living in the silly valley with a blanket of all sorts of networks. Its always 'what.. you want it to work offline?, why would anyone do that? '.

I can't even find a darn phone app/repeater DB that works offline. To me, the only time when I'm going to be dying for that is when I've run out of comm options.
