so the rx7 pump has two pressure lines. and one return. The steering rack then has three ports on it. Two are pressure, one is out to the cooler then back to the pump.

With the swap i am doing, my pump has one pressure line out, like a normal car.

1.) Why are there two pressure lines in the first place.
2.) any thoughts on how to plumb this arrangement?.

Yeah I ran into that a while back. If you search around there are 2nd gen racks that have only one and one out. It came down to different years. On a good note if my memory serves me right the three hose racks where the quickest racks available.

3-hose racks had variable assist, I believe. I'd bet $5 you could plug one. Which one you decide to use might change the assist.

google said that the one with the wee little opening at the back of the opening is the one to cap off.

now only if adapter fittings could reach the threads down in there....

It's a threaded hole, find the appropriate bolt, and seal it up.

So I did more reading and it was a speed sensing style of steering. And all fancy computer controlled.

Everything I keep finding says to swap everything front the other car. CLEARLY that's not a choice here. So I'm guessing that one will give less pressure to the steering versous the other. If you go with one over the other I say go with the less pressure one.

Also the way I capped mine off was I chopped the metal hose off at the banjo bolt, zapped it closed with the welder and used the factory bolt and crush washers to put it right back where it belonged.

The three port rack is the one to get anyway - the two port racks have a slower ratio.

pulled about everything in the car to repaint the floor which is mostly comprised of bonda, rust, welded up holes, rubber sealant and other things. So i covered it all in industrial grade white paint. Which i might add is terrible to clean up.

Once the painting is finished, things will go back in for good.

Should have been several square feet of duct tape and shiny metal tape, too!

yea i keep forgetting. The paint fumes certainly are helping that. I have to get under there sometime in the future to finish the brakes lines so i will measure when i do that.

I also learned that truck bed liner (for the floor boards where the feet would hang out) eats the hell out of rustolem. So i have a gooey fiasco to handle tomorrow before i can stick the seats back in there and all that

Just thought it might be entertaining to share a picture of the same car when it was fresh in 2003... (although I've apparently forgotten how to share a photo - WTF).

Picture of cage in 2003

It's starting to look good again!
