spent some time tonight trying to get my old Megasquirt II v3.0 into shape to run the Miata 1.6. First off, the next car is not likely to get a Megasquirt if i have to go through this much crap to get one working again.

secondly, im not done with it yet. I have to shove a diode somewhere to get fly-back on the PWM IAC right and then solve the issue with the coil drivers..

okay so i had to desolder all of the crap i did since it was for a MS1, and i have a MS2. So after re-reading into what i was supposed to be doing. the Megasquirt is done! (again!) only this time it was test externally on a stim card and hooked to the lap top. We have a basic tune for a 1.8 on there which should start it up, then i can run the autotune stuff to lean it out for the 1.6

looks like i might be in business here soon!

couple progress pics! Fuel lines are getting there, megasquirt is in the car, just need to run the TPS, IAT, and ignition outs. Have to weld a bung to the intake manifold for the IAT though. Coolant stuff is almost finished! Might start here soon!

OOOooooooooOOOOH! So ya wnet with the ordinary 240 expansion tank!
They're good. I have on in the 6,2 Diesel van...

Why'd you spend millions on running 'spensive braided hose thru the cabin?

Inheritance? Lotto? Corn-fusion?

Ain't that rad nice?

Hey, looks like you found an exhaust manifold. So can I thrown mine back in my spares pile?

-Dave

(engine bay's looking really clean, by the way. Radiator layout looks really good for a cold-side coolant re-route, when you get around to it.)

Yea the Volvo one worked out dimensionally after I had a long hard stare at how to connect the coolant hose into the system and realized i wanted to move it. The fuel? well i just said screw it and went with it. I can't flare things to save my life.

Yea the radiator was great. Went in easy enough and matched the inlet/outlet sizes of the engine.

Yea i finally stumble across one locally. Bonus, the downpipe portion also worked!

actually its some long extruded cooler thing i was sizing up since i had it for power steering, but i dont believe ill be using it at this time. All my rx7 oil coolers, wierdly refused to go into the rx7 nicely.... but for now im just going to get it running without any cooler and add it in at a later time. Need to get the thing driving!

Flaring is prep and practice, just keep practicing on some derelict pipe, read instructions and go it.

And yeah for that thing I wouldn't worry till its being pounded hard..
Of course you have a oil temp gauge...dontcha? Right next to the oil pressure gauge...

only gauges in the car are going to be oil temp, press and coolant temp

One neat trick I've seen lately is a coolant pressure warning light. You can usually just use an oil pressure dummy light sensor plumbed into the cooling system. Loss of coolant pressure is your early warning that something sprung a leak and you'll be overheating soon.

Volts is kinda nice.
You have lights and pumps and fans and the furry glove option switched on and you see the V on 11.9v---you know that's the road to perdition...
Batterys go duff, alternators get tired, brushes wear out.
I like my Volts gauge (which came in a 3 Pack in some Volvo or Audi with a cool little sub harness, din't have to hardly wire anything .)

okay so aside from needing... two clamps, the cooling is basically done. actually i need to plug or connect these silly 3/8" or smaller nipples, but then its done. Then i can add some coolant and see if the junk pile holds yet another fluid!

managed to make my bulkhead today despite the snow / cold! Pictures should explain most of what happened, but it was a road sign, cut to a circle. drilled for the return and feed bulkhead fittings. the two original sign mounting holes will be used to hold the bulkhead down, but i didnt feel like getting the welder out to make the brackets to hold it.

still either one 180 degree fitting for braided line or two 90 degree 3/8 barb to 6AN fittings so i can finish plumbing the system. then ill get the gas tank up and drop the lines to the tank!

Also the fuel pump stuff is done!
