While you have the JB weld out, goober up the throttle body screws. Cheap insurance against them breaking off. Apparently this is a common thing on high-revving Miatas. Very common on race cars. Never happens on street cars. I'd never heard of it until we sucked a screw into our engine after 17 or 18 endurance races. Then everyone I told about it said "oh yea, Miatas all do that. That's common knowledge!"

I'd almost worry about pieces of the JB Weld breaking off and being ingested. Although maybe those will do a little less damage than a throttle body screw!

Yea, I know what you mean. JB weld seems like a really odd solution here, but apparently it's a proven solution. Most other solutions involve the application of heat (brazing, etc), which all have their own potential issues. Also, the root cause is not the screw backing out or even the screw head breaking, but a harmonic that breaks the shaft, which then causes the screw failure. The JB weld just holds everything together long enough for you to see the problem and replace the throttle body.

exhaust is done up to the point where i need a muffler to exit the rear. Straight pipe sounds way way too much like death for my liking. At least the rotary sounds cool. This sounds like doom.

Also, discovered my alternator wasnt charging the car, so on pay day ill have to go and handle that problem. Although first, im going to rummage through my assortment of mazda alternators and see if any work. The GM looking one that Doug had put on the 12a might be able to be convinced to go on the 1.6... we shall see. Stocker is only 60A.

the wideband sensor should be on my door step at home as i type, so i can install that i suppose and once i have charnging again, i can get to tuning!

Only concern i do have it getting the thing warmed up and driven to determine what the of the blue smoke is. Hoping its just valve seals, which the car is known for. I can live with that until after Idaho. Unless someone happens to have the tool on hand to do it without removing the head.

Still weighing options on the brakes. I could track down some front single pot calipers and step down to run the 4 lug hubs up front and thus have matching lug pattern. But i really really like good brakes since im one to floor it in the down hill... thoughts? comments? suggestions? i might just gamble on which spare to bring along.

Yeah you could have an axle shop redrill your 4x4.5 to 5x4.5. There is enough meat on them to do that. The 4x110 (or what ever it was) puts the lugs on the very outer edge so they couldn't be redrilled
