I nuked the engine in the Galant today. I was stuck in the fast lane at rush hour and had to keep popping the clutch while coasting in 3rd gear to get the engine to fire long enough to get off the road. Lost multiple cylinders in the process. Just before giving up the ghost in a smokey, steamy fiasco on the shoulder, she sounded just like a WRX.
Now that it's home and cooled down, cranking it sounds just like I forgot to install spark plugs. (sigh) Brian Driggs | KG7KCA | PHX, AZ | 89 Pajero alterius non sit qui suus esse potest |

Pulled the destroyed motor out of the Talon, stripped it of anything usefull. Dragged old spare motor (with spun bearing) out of storage and stripped down for a complete overhaul. It needs to be hot tanked, honed, new pistons/rods, oil pump, turn the crank, all new brgs etc. Lotta work to do before BRS in September (well...for your average full time job married new baby over worked under slept type guy).
Gotta get this thing going so I can maybe sell it and work on the Xratty for next year! |

Nice! I've decided I'm going to make use of my wonderful Tuesday off this week by yanking the head off the Galant and inspecting things. This will be the first time the head's been off in over 210k miles, so hopefully I can get away with a ring/hone job. If that's the case, next Saturday night, after I've missed both the Gorman Ridge Rally and the 15th Annual DSM Shootout due to work, I'll be sitting in my garage, drinking cheap, American beer, and starting to get the Galant back on the road. Wish me luck. Brian Driggs | KG7KCA | PHX, AZ | 89 Pajero alterius non sit qui suus esse potest |

Good luck! That's alota miles on a turbo motor. I ordered a bunch of parts. New crank, Eagle Rods, Arias pistons, Cometic HG, All new timing assy, new Oil Pump, water pump.etc etc. Head is already reconditioned. Looks like the DSM will be my rally car for a while to come, so why not upgrade the motor while I've got the chance? Hopefully get the block bored and tanked this week and start the assembly. |

Did a post-mortem after snapping an axle at Ojibwe. It snapped in exactly the same way that it did it Maine. The CV didn't go, but the axle stub broke off the end of the CV. Called the supplier. Turns out I got a bad batch of outer CVs. Supplier apologized profusely and is covering it.
Most aggravating, considering I basically drove all the way across the country to just hand the G2 Championship to Duplessis. He probably would've beat me at Maine (his home turf), but I probably would've beat him at Ojibwe. Grr. If, if, if. Regretting running a Quaife. I have no complaints about Quaife and it's done exactly what it's designed for, but it wasn't designed for rally. Just ordered a KAAZ. Self-righteous douche canoe |

Did some testing this weekend on gravel Car feels loose up front but will play around with alignment and tire pressures. While testing had a little off hitting a pile of dirt after the rear went in to a ditch and kicked up. Damaged a little bit of front fender and rear wheel arch. Overall a pretty decent weekend. Now just gotto get the car setup a little bit more to my liking...
