Fortunately, it's a common thing to do on this car. It's not the sensor that needs to be flipped, but the little propeller inside the sensor, ala this picture. EDIT: forgot picture NoCoast Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > The plug wires could be wrong on coilpack. Again, I'm fortunate that the coilpack actually has the order printed on it in bright white paint, so unless they decided, this one year, to count the cylinders going towards the timing belt, I'm safe on that one. It's all titties and beer, my friend. I couldn't have got the marks lined up better if I tried! I mean, I've had other DSMers come by and ask me how we did it. Haha. (I do need to get a bulb for this old school timing light so I can set base timing once it's running. Whatever that's all about. My Talon is high tech enough to not need it.) NoCoast Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Check your MAF connections. Done and done. Even have a spare MAF if I need to try that. One is hacked, but we're trying out the stock, unmolested unit first. NoCoast Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Check to see if you are getting fuel. Roger that. No pressure gauge on the system, but pulling the return line gets fuel while cranking. We also tried crimping the return line to artificially raise fuel pressure at the rail, spraying starter fluid into the manifold while cranking and several curse words, but got no dice. This leads us to an ignition problem, imo. NoCoast Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Oh, and check for your check engine light and > engine codes. And good luck. It's an OBDI system, so I don't have the Logger handy, although I could probably have my neighbor download a copy from PocketLogger and come over to read the code. I know I have a 1G (first generation) PocketLogger cable from my GS-T. Sorry to hear about your motor troubles. I think we've all been there, man. From all the trouble shooting we did the other night, I think I'm in good shape. We know we had fuel, although we know the fuel is old. We know we had spark, but there is a chance we just had the ignition timing 180* off through that cam angle sensor. I suspect that means we had spark, but at the wrong time. This is working out pretty good, though. Autozone here just started up this new program where you get a plastic card (like the grocery stores). Everytime you spend $20 or more, it registers a point. Once you get five points, you get a $20 credit on the card for your next visit. They used to have these paper punch cards, but they just stepped into the 21st century. I look at it as getting 20% back. :shrug So I got my fuel filter and belts last night. 1 point. I'm gonna score some more brake fittings, teflon tape, and brake kleen tonight. 1 point. I'll need a battery for the Gaylant. 1 point. Then I have a CV axles to buy for the Talon next weekend. 1 point. Might as well change the oil in the Talon before the trip to KC in three weeks. 1 point. And just like that, the first oil change in the GVR4 is paid for. Thanks for the support, fellas. I mostly posted because I wanted to be able to say I actually did something on my (eventual) rally car. I'm lucky to know a thing or two about these misterbichies. (And now I'm calling them "misterbichies." Thanks, John.) Brian Driggs | KG7KCA | PHX, AZ | 89 Pajero alterius non sit qui suus esse potest Edited 1 time(s). A little trick I learned from biking in the salt and slush and trying to work on the junk afterwards is that ammonia dissolves aluminum oxide. The hard part is getting the ammonia to the corrosion.

Found it.

I've also got the write up on how to use a 12V LED to run that test. I'll probably be running an LED from the test port to the gauge cluster somewhere, on a switch, so it's not blinking at me all the time. Thanks for going the extra mile, man. Brian call me please.
I have 3 empty gas cans and some leftover 109 octane from Prescott. Come and get them. You can keep the 3 little drums if you like to. I have a 55 gal now so i don't need the 5 gals anymore. Retrieved our Subaru from the frame shop last night. She looks straight again! She does need something to make her go again though, like a new engine! ;-)
Good thing one just arrived in the warehouse today. We'll be working on both the Merkur and the Subaru this weekend. Cheers! John http://www.lastditchracing.com http://www.triplecaution.us |

I got it fucking running.
Still left to do before she takes to the street: -Xfer case -Prop shaft -AC compressor, bracket and belt (tied out of the way) -Fix small coolant leak at head (water neck) -Fix small coolant leak at radiator drain -PS belt (Autozone gave me too small) -Clutch slave cylinder -Connect brake lines in engine bay after ABS delete. Rallyho's high-paid crew chief stopped by and got some of his tools out of my cellar and had a load of used tires and a tubing bender in his Exploder headed for Maine next weekend.
I for one need to get out the Sawzall and remove the disaster of a roll cage in my XR4 shell, order up a load of tubing and borrow that borrowed bender when Rallyho is done with it. Do they make a welding helmet that fits on a Baby Bjorn? Andrew Steere Lyndeborough, NH KB1PJY |

Good Job Brian !!!
You see what happens when you stop by early in the morning and watch soccer with me ? It gives you extra UPMF to get it running. Are you using the V pulley for the P/S ? If you have the ribbed one stop by I have a 'few' P/S belts. Cheers M.Samli Phoenix AZ Gaylant VR4 EVO III GSR (Stolen) Rallies are no place for traitors |

I ended up buying the proper belt and it should go on before too long. We got the Xfer case bolted up tonight as well as the prop shaft. Turns out my idea back in Clovis to put the hangers/bolts back into the underside of the car prior to transport wasn't the best. We're missing hangers for the rear-most carrier bearing. We've got the shaft otherwise installed, but I don't dare drive it with a chance the shaft might be flopping around in there. You got a spare hanger or two lying around, boss? Otherwise, I just need to get the last two fittings and fudge my way through flaring the brake lines under the hood for the brakes to be back online (and bleed them). I've also got a clutch slave rebuild kit tonight so I can get her in gear. After that, it's just bolting the hood to the hinges and cleaning things up a bit before hitting the road (albeit illegally without registration for testing). Do you have any advice on shortcuts for someone with a Kansas DL trying to register a car he bought in New Mexico in Arizona? I'd like to get the 30 day permit to drive it here and there during the move, but I don't know how easy that will be with my out of state license. If I get the AZ license, then I'll have to figure out how to explain my KS tags on the Talon should I get pulled over for anything. Currently, I flash my student ID. (The Talon has some sketchy emission shit throwing a CEL. OBDII means CEL == FAIL.) Thanks for the support! Brian Driggs | KG7KCA | PHX, AZ | 89 Pajero alterius non sit qui suus esse potest |

Welded the main hoop to the car and the main hoop feet. Now it's time to go crazy with a bunch of steel in the rear of the car.
The boys finished four point in Mike Rose's Legacy why I was bowling and drinking beer. Got another set of four Compomotives. That now puts me at 14 Compomotives for this car. I have a set of all three of the best ones made, TH, MO, and TH2s. And got one of those cool jet heaters that run on Kerosene. Instantly had to see how brake clean reacts to those. http://www.nocoastmotorsports.net/fire.wmv Grant Hughes Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 12/10/2006 11:13PM by NoCoast. |
