Nothing on the rallycar this weekend. I did put a new hitch on the van though, swapping the old class III hitch that blocks the underside spare tire mount for a new class V hitch that lets me put the spare back where it's supposed to go. It's nice to get that spare out of the way (it's just been strapped down in the back for the last year) and actually be able to tow up the van's rated capacity.

Rear beam back in the car. Sunroof hole ground smooth. Windshield goop cleaned off shell. Rear coilovers verified as still not fitting without modifying STAs. Will do new brackets correctly this time though to ensure proper ride height. Need to get halfshafts rebuilt or order new ones and replace the bearing in the bearing carrier. Cage work should start soon. Fuck building cars. I might find it more enjoyable if I could rewind to back when I didn't work three jobs and go to school full time and got more than 4-5 hours of sleep per night and didn't get up at 6 am and go to bed a 1 or 2 and didn't do homework assignments that end up being 17 pages for 10 problems and didn't have to deal with shit like proving that the truncated Poisson distribution is a valid probability distribution and deriving every fucking parameter and aspect of it. I'm a little grumpy today.

Meh. I looked at it a couple times. Even sat in it while smoking a cigarette the other night.
I've run into a possible business venture that stands to make completion of the car a reality (within the next year), but I have to put a lot of time into getting it going. I told my girlfriend about it and she suggested I get the rally car done. I'm popping the question Friday night. :thumbsup Brian Driggs | KG7KCA | PHX, AZ | 89 Pajero alterius non sit qui suus esse potest |

The Golf is now finally registered in my name, but.... I decided that the shell is too nice for it to ever see dirt. Imagine that. I'll just use for putting around, although it might see a rollcage someday.

I put my struts back together yesterday. And tomorrow I've got to prime the doors and hood and put the struts back in so I can put the car outside because I picked up the festy that I'm putting a b6t in for a kid. At least that project has some money behind it to motivate me, its a fucking basket case the way the kid has it all torn apart though.

Yesterday I got the new crank sensor working with the 36-1 multitooth wheel in MegaSquirt. Felt great after having all sorts of trouble.
Today I finished the nylon bushings for the rear beam - nice to have a lathe . Tomorrow I should be able to get the rear beam mounted... Brgrds Brian |

I primered the hood, doors, and windsheild channel. Thought about putting the struts on but got pissed and left. Then I went and played in the few inches of snow with my scirocco, kumho all seasons suck but they make for fun sliding. Mayhaps I'll put the blizziaks on soon.

But! But Wait a minute, you bent a rear beam on a VW!!!!??? On asphalt??? How can that be!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?????????????????? I don't belive you! I have read many many times over on the Authoritative American Resource the VWs are amazingly tough!!!! Maybe you installed the last one wrong? Maybe you're big and fat? Was it bent on your side?? Just remember, you read it there! and keep repeating: VWs are strong, VWs are strong, VWs are strong, VWs are strong, VWs are strong, VWs are strong,VWs are strong, VWs are strong. My Merkur rear beam was bent as shit too.
Yesterday I started welding on the JVAB aluminum crossmember. Blew the shit out of the breaker so now I have to replace the breakers in the the box with new ones. A bit worried if my ghetto house wiring will be able to support the amperage required to weld Aluminum. Created a template for new shock brackets on the rear STAs. I know some people have made it work with the stock ones, but I can't see any way to get it to work properly with the stock mount so I'm just going to do new ones again. Compared to the ones that we made hammered that resulted in super ride height. They were about three inches high. These are being made sober. Going to buy steel for cage feet and brackets on STA in a few minutes. Grant Hughes |
