No, I was thinking something more along the lines of 24/lemons, etc. It would suck to get up there and other, important bits missing. For that price, I could deal with a lot, its the possibly wasted day/road trip that would piss me off.

1989 merkur xr4ti price dropped....500.00 - $500 (east providence)

got an 1989 merkur xr4ti red with 123,000 miles on it body its mint 3 or 4 quarter size rust spots easy fix leather interior heated seats power windows interior very clean running good very fast car for what it is...kenny 401 473 6396

dropped the price again 1 more week id really hate to scrap it but its just sitting there all it needs is head gasket
500.00 ................needs headgasket take it for 500 scrapyards givin me 450 1 week and its gone to the scrapyard

How likely is it that the "headgasket" is more like "warped, destroyed head with spun bearings" heh

No, good chance just a gasket. They're maybe $14.00 First time might take maybe 4 hours, or if you call me a little less.
But you have to use your brains a little on them. If the thing is scorched all the hell and discolored look hard at cylinders 2 and 3 for cracks.
A smart person might surface the head. And maybe get some new stock springs and bang them on, they're insane cheap and they do get tired.
I can send stem seals---all 8 yours for a pack o smokes (American Spirit Blue)

Any piccies of the thing?

the pics are pretty small and crappy and really dont tell you anything other than it is red, has a dash cluster, and the hood opens. but no engine pics or shots of the rust.

XR4TI a slow build!

If it's half way ok it would be too bad to have it crushed. Considering a seal freshening isn't a bad idea anyway, I would think a blown HG wouldn't be a big deal.. even if it turns into a bit more.

Only pics are what is in the ad.

Yeah, I'd get the head cut, and thanks for the DL on the cracks. By springs I assume valve springs.
Bits from ford still availible? I assume the same goes suspension wise for the XR as does the 240.

In your humble, but generious opinion John, should I wait for a V to come availible, or call this kid tommorrow... decisions, decisions...

Would have already called myself.
Gotta jump on things.

Mono red.....Hmmmmmmmmmmm I like red

lay down and look at the pinch weld at the very bottom of the sills.
Look at the floor sill junction.
Take a stack of 20s.

Also grab the front wheels w/ one hand behind and one in front at 3 and 9 and yank hard forward while watching the center of the wheel. If it jerks forward the outer bushes in the lower control arm ( In Ford talk the "TCA"winking smiley are shot and you can do the Jewish Mama "Oi! Gewalt! And now the outer TCA bushes are vermischt! Gott! And what will that cost!???" routine.
Pull out the stack of 20s and make him an offer.

Building a Merkur

MY XR, from $300 car to on stage, with a fresh engine, BMW diff (you can do Supra) proper cage, JVAB sooper bitchin suspension and front brakes, underbody, skid plates, new seats/belts and all the little shit was $8000. That car in that form was able to compete for the win in 2wd no problem. I just am not there yet. Oh, and it was super reliable. 4 rallies and all I had to do was change oil and wash it. I ran a stock T9 5spd with 4.10 R&P and loved it. I made some upgrades like Heim jointed front suspension and stuff. Unfortunately, in the 5th rally I tried to drive through a tree at 50mph or so. Starting another one.....

Just remember, in RA you need 10 coefficients to run in G5. NASA don't care. I was able to get a G5 waiver due to all my previous racing experience.

Coefficients? Ive read through the rules a while ago, but dont remember them. Mostly because I usually ignore turbo cars and their classes. I assume you need some chops before they will let you run a turbo car or some such?

Welp, we'll see who returns my many phone calls and emails tommorrow. I'm running out of weekend, bastards soaking up my time...

what series are you looking to compete in?

RA wont let you run with boost untill you have done about 6-8 events.

My intent was just to run local... RNY or black river or the like. I really dont mind missing the RA events for a while, I doubt id get the chance to run them any time soon anyhow.
