Stipped all glue and paint around shock tower. Removed sunroof, doors, hood, glass, spoiler, wipers/motors, rear beam, hubs, shocks, STAs, brakes, wired 220 plug into the garage so I could plug in welder, drank lots of beer, got ready to remove fuel tank, and drank lots of beer with my friends, who came and went throughout most of the weekend. Cut out rear window to make it proper.

Well "Mr. I have an entire room dedicated to rally parts" you have NO excuses to not have the car ready soon. Well...I guess money can and will always be an excuse. Aaron said your new place was awesome.

Oh...I got the belts rewebbed and I am moving the seat (a real pain in my car) back a little. I will remove the steering column this weekend and rebuild the reducer and re-engineer the setup I have.

Well after way too many false starts the 900 shell is in what I hope is it's new shop/home along with a shit-load of tools, engine hoists, motors, etc. The Brother in Law wanted to reclaim his 2.5 car garage from my sister catering companies doilies, platter, flower arrangments, etc. So we chucked (ok, moved carefully under her supervision) everything out of the way and stuck all my crap in there.

It's gotta be the nicest rally shop I've ever worked in with lots of lights, a dartboard, cable tv, a bar and a kegerator.

Mike

You need a 2 stroke blender now, and a leather couch.

Eduardo Mayhem can provide the TeamEvil pull-start blender.

And we'll just have to do with the Naugahide covered creeper until some skanky leather couch shows up.

Wo0t! I get to reply again! grinning smiley

New water pump is here! As soon as the balance shaft eliminator kit arrives from Road Race, likely Monday or Tuesday, I'll have everything critical to getting the engine ready to go back into the car.

I aim to have the engine, transmission, and xfer case ready to go in by the end of this week! I say again, wo0t!

Where does one find aircraft remover and about how much per unit (I assume gallon)? I'm thinking I'd like to spend the winter removing the cruddy paint on the Gaylant, fixing the divers dings and dents, and painting the car flat black for a nice, menacing look. I figure I can do a couple panels every pay day until it's done.

You should be able to find quarts of aircraft remover at any decent auto parts store. Home Depot or something might have larger sizes. I dunno. Haven't looked.

You might want to think twice about painting the Gaylant black, considering you live in AZ. It's usually baking hot for the summer CRS events.

Last night I attempted to build an shroud to mate the audi dual-fan shroud to the VW radiator and limit air leakage around the sides. What I learned was that the term "sucks" would be a kind evaluation of my aluminum MIG welding skills. It's a good project to practice on though. If worse comes to worst I'll make it out of thin steel I guess.

In the meantime, the engine build starts tonight, whee! Today is cleaning day.

It comes in gallon containers, get the stuff in a container not the spray. I got mine at a local autoparts store and it was like $32 a gallon. I find that using a plastic snow scraper works good for applying and removing the stripper. Its a lot off work, burns when you get it on you, and stings when you breathe it in. But its way better than sanding! You'd probably need 2 gallons to do an entire car. The longer you leave it on (without it drying) the more paint it removes!
